Lost and insecure..You found me..You found me..
I quickly looked at the stereo system playing the song questioning myself was it coincidental..
"Uh...I'm sorry. I'll Just change it." he moved his hand towards the player to change the radio station.
"No." I said abruptly he quickly looked at me surprised by my sudden disapproval.
"I meant.. don't. it's nice. It's something.." I was without words to describe him why I wanted to keep listening to this song.
"Something you can relate to? I agree." He interrupted and then completed what I wanted to say, how did he know, I looked at him his eyes were now fixed on the road but my silence proved him that he was correct and he smiled broadly for being right.
You actually did find me, I thought and smiled inwardly then went back to looking through the window.
"By the way, I'm Richard. Richard Wilson and you?" I looked at him again. Raj.. Richard.. his name too starts with an R.. would he too turn out Iike Raj. Greedy and selfish. I couldn’t tell so soon, sadness filled me. "You know, I can’t forever call you lady or precious still if you want, it’s fine by me but it’ll be way too weird for others and who knows..."
“Roop.." I took my chances and spoke my name outloud. I have to trust him a little ofcourse because it’s way better than going back to that scary place again.
"Roopinder dhillon.." I replied in a low voice.
"You're.. an.. indian.” He looked back and forth from the road then back at me. I could see he was amazed that he had just saved an Indian woman’s life.
"Didn't know Indian girl's were so pretty. I mean, I have few Indian friends but they are more blessed with knowledge then looks, you know what I mean." he chuckled in a friendly manner.
"I swear! No offense really." He then grinned wide.
"Thank you Mr. Wilson, I'm much flattered.” Somehow being with him I felt happy even after I had recently gone through so much .
"My pleasure, Miss Roop and please call me Richard because I have others to address me that way." He then cleared his throat and coughed a little.
Is he feeling nervous around me all of a sudden? No way.
"So this name of yours, does it have a meaning in your indian language?' He asked curiously.
"How did you know?" I asked impressed by his knowledge of Indian culture.
"Oh that! told you..lndian friends. Their names all have a meaning..but you know what, it's easy to understand and remember the meanings then the actual names." I laughed and thought this stranger could be funny too beside being creepy.
"but right now I'm more interested in yours and I think I'll remember both equally good.. so?!" he smirked and waited for my answer.
"If you tell me yours first, then, I'll tell what my name means." I smiled playfully.
"Oh nice! Getting even are we now?" He smiled and I returned a short grin in return teasingly.
"Hmm. Fair enough. Well, come to think of it.. nobody ever asked me that but.." He gave a little thought to it then continued.
"I do remember once my Granpa told me that it means a powerful leader and actually feel it perfectly suits me." He smiled proudly. Men and their conceitedness.
I thought but this stranger here I felt was different than other boys I had met previously so I agreed with a smile.
"It's your turn, Miss."
"Hmm. Okay so Roop actually means beauty." I replied simply.
"Damn! No way! Does it?" I could see he was amused and I nodded.
"So the Indian beauty got involved with the powerful leader. Interesting combination, eh!" He laughed heartily. "Would be the top story everyone would be interested to get their hands on.." he grinned mischievously and changed the gear.
For sure this guy was crazy and a bit hard to understand but still a man with a golden heart as I could judge from his behavior.
"We are just about to reach, hope you like the place." He smiled at me and parked his car inside a secured area of a high rise baronial building.
