*Ring Ring…..*
"Hello...”
"Hey! My cute little sissy is finally coming back home! How does it feel?!" My older sister questioned excitedly.
"Pretty good," I replied with a low voice to conceal my disappointment.
I was happy to meet my family after a long- winded decade but at the same time, I was going to miss my friends with whom I had spend great times and completed my MBA studies.
And also a very significant person who now occupied a special place in my delicate heart as the days went by in Mussoorie. It wasn't easy for me to leave but I promised to stay in touch with all of them.
"That's all?" She asked dejectedly, "I thought after staying away from mom and dad for two years you would feel more than that. It seems you haven't changed a bit, Roopy...” She sighed
“Or is there something else in Mussoorie that has caught your attention now?" she asked sarcastically. Some things never change. Preeti, my older sister was nosy as always.
"Well, it seems to me that you haven't stopped assuming things all by yourself Preeti di(sister)!" I replied with an equal sarcasm.
I gave a hearty laugh just to show that her assumption was very wrong but on the contrary, she was absolutely right. Sooner or later I would have to reveal the truth about 'Him'. This, however, wasn't the right time so I didn't say much further.
From the background, I heard my mother's voice.
"Okay! Okay! Mom's asking when you're going to arrive?"
I told her to hold on and asked the driver,
"Bhaiya aur kitna time lagega? (How much time will it take to reach?)
He replied with an answer of one hour and I relayed the message to my sister who told my mother the same thing. She wasn't satisfied and began using her foulest curses on the driver.
Preeti di sighed, "Mom worries a lot about you, you know. She didn't even sleep last night because she was worried about you making the journey. She will be much better when you reach home so tell the driver to pick up speed!"
I chuckled, "I'll tell him, but leave out mom's curses!"
I heard some fumbling on the other end of the line and she carried on, "By the way, we have a surprise waiting only for you!"
"A surprise?" I was confused. I wasn't expecting anything.
"What is it di?"
Preeti di always made lamest things look more interesting with her talks so I wasn't very impressed, but at the same time I was curious.
"You'll see once you reach home. After all, it’s a surprise, baby! I don't want to spoil it. Just get yourself home!"
Then I heard a male voice calling her name.
"Gosh! I almost forgot! Be right there babe! Gotta go! Love you lots!" She then made a kissing sound & hung up the phone before I could ask more about the surprise.
