I woke up with sweat and tears running down my face.
Lila knew I was here.
The realization hit me like a punch to the chest, sending my heart into a terrified frenzy.
I needed to get up.
I needed to get out of this bed — now.
I tried to move, but the second I shifted my weight, a horrible wave of weakness crushed down on me.
My limbs felt heavy, like they were tied to the bed with invisible chains.
Panic started bubbling up inside me, cold and sharp.
I couldn’t move.
My breath hitched in my throat as my eyes darted wildly around the room — until I spotted the small control attached to my bed.

Hope flared inside me.
