After Aidan and Nikolai left the room, I went back to sleep but before I could sleep deeply a knock echoed softly at my door. At first, I thought I imagined it. I sat up slowly, brushing my hair from my face. Then came another knock, followed by a hesitant voice.
“My lady… the Queen has summoned you.”
I got up and walked to the door, opening it slightly. A maid stood there, her eyes downcast, shoulders stiff.
