He sighed again. “Nuel, I won’t change your group.”
I flinched. “But—”
“I understand that you are still dealing with personal matters.” His voice was softer now, but it did nothing to ease the weight in my chest. “But running away from your teammates won’t help you.”
I swallowed hard. “It’s not running away.”
He tilted his head. “Then what is it?”
I bit my lip, looking away.
He nodded knowingly. “You don’t have to answer. But I’ll tell you this—sometimes, the people we least want to rely on are the ones we need the most.”
I hated that.
I hated that part of me knew he was right.
