Lucas expression turned grim. "We'll find him, Ava. But now we must focus on the packs gathering. The alliance depend on it."
Drake appeared at the entrance, his eyes fixed on Ava.
"I can help you find Axel," Drake said. "But you must trust me."
Ava hesitated, unsure if she should confide in Drake.
Ava decided to accept Drake's offer, despite her reservations.
"Okay, help me Drake," Ava said, her voice firm.
Drake nodded. "I will track Axel's scent, but first, tell me what happened.
Ava recounted her encounter with Axel, including his fleeting moment of recognition.
Drake's expression turned thoughtfully. Axel's programming is complex. We'll need to be cautious."
Together, they set out, following Drake's skilled tracking.
As they navigated the forest, Drake revealed more about Axel's conditioning.
The elders use a combination of psychological manipulation and dark magic,"Drake explained. Breaking the programme won't make it easy."
Ava's determination hardened.
"We'll find a way," She said.
Suddenly, Drake stopped, his head c****d.
"What is it? Ava asked.
I sense... a hidden entrance," Drake replied, his eyes scanning the areas.
Ava's heart quickened.
Drake led Ava through the hidden entrance, revealing a labyrinthine network of tunnels and chambers beneath the city.
"This is the Vampire Court hidden domain," Drake explained, his voice low. Be cautious, Ava. The court's politics are treacherous.
Ava's senses heightened as they navigated the opulent corridors, adorned with velvet drapes and candelabras.
They arrived at the grand throne room, where the Vampire King, Julian, sat enthroned.
"Ava, daughter of the werewolf clan," Julian said, his voice dripping with elegance. I've heard of your...exploits.
Drake stepped forward, his eyes locked on Julian.
"Your majesty,Ava seek our help in rescuing her brother Axel," Drake said.
Julian's gaze narrowed.
Ah Axel. A valuable pawn in the elders' game. I'll consider your request... for a price."
Ava's instinct warned her of the king's intentions. She stood firm, refusing to be swayed by Julian's offer.
"I won't bargain about my brother's life," Ava said, her voice steady. "We need your help, but i won't comprise our values."
Julian's smiled hinted at amusement.
"Values? How... quaint," Julian said. Very well, i'll grant you an audience with our court's expert on elder magic."
Drake intervened, his tone cautious.
"Your majesty, perhaps --"
Julian raised his hand.
"Indulge me Drake, let Ava meet Lady Catherine. She'll... enlighten you."
Ava sensed hidden motives behind Julian's words.
Lady Catherine entered, her beauty and pose commanding attention.
"Welcome, Ava," Lady Catherine said. "I'll share my knowledge of elder magic... in exchange for a small
favor."
Ava hesitated, unsure of Lady Catherine's intentions.
Ava's instincts screamed warning.
"I refuse," Ava said, her voice firm. "I won't bind myself to unknown obligations."
Lady Catherine's smile never wavered.
"Wisdom beyond your years, Ava," Lady Catherine said. "But desperation can be .... binding. You'll return when options dwindle."
Julian's gaze turned cold.
Drake, escort Ava out. "Our audience is concluded."
Drake nodded, guiding Ava from the throne room.
As they exited the Vampire Court. Drake spoke in hushed tones.
"Ava, you made the right choice. Lady Catherine's favors comes with steep prices."
Ava's mind reeled.
"What does Lady Catherine want from me?" Ava asked.
Drake's expression turned grave.
"I'm not certain, but her interests often conflicts with Julian's. Be cautious."
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows.
"Ava, i can help you rescue Axel," the figure said.
Ava recognised the voice -- Kelly a rogued vampire she'd encountered before.
Ava turned to Drake, seeking his counsel.
"What do you know about Kelly's intentions?" Ava asked.
Drake's expression turned cautious.
"Kelly walks a fine line between loyalty and self-interest," Drake said. "His being known to aid those who further his own goals."
Ava weighed Drake's words.
"What could Kelly gain from helping me? Ava asked.
"Access to werewolf clan information or alliances, perhaps, or maybe make you his woman." Drake replied with a hint of jealousy. "Kelly's motives are never straightforward."
Kelly stepped further, his eyes locked on Ava.
"I can provide message on the elders' stronghold and Axel's location, Kelly said. "In exchange, grant me asylum within your clan's territory."
Ava hesitated, unsure if trusting Kelly was worth the risk.
Suddenly, Drake intervened.
"I'll vouch for Kelly's information," Elijah said. "But Ava, set boundaries. Kelly's loyalty will always be to himself." Ava nodded making a calculated decision.
Ava extended her hand, sealing the deal.
"I accept your offer Kelly. But remember: asylum doesn't mean immunity. Betray us, infact betray i in particular and you will face the consequences."
Kelly's smile hinted at amusement.
"I wouldn't have it any other way Ava."
Drake provided Kelly with a small intricately carved stone.
"This token, grants you temporary asylum," Drake explained. But don't test Ava's patience else i will make you pay."
"You do fit a couple though, but its just a pity both of your kinds are not in accord with one another," Kelly said, as he pocketed the stone, leaving Ava a blushing mess, and Drake smirking as if he won a lottery.
Kelly's gaze turned intense the next minute.
"Here's the message: Axel is held in the elders' eastern stronghold. Heavy guards, layered wards. You'll need strategy and stealth."
Ava committed the information to memory.
"What's the layout of the stronghold," Ava asked.
Kelly handed her a detailed sketch.
Entrances, exits, patrol routes. Be cautious; the elders have surprises waiting." then he left.
As Ava studied the sketch, Drake leaned in, very close to Ava's face, but she had no idea about it.
"Ava, consider our next move" he said, the heat from his mouth sending shivers down Ava's spine. She froze for a moment, before she turned her head to look at Drake who was already staring at her.
They both were lost in each other's eyes, forgetting they had something to do , and slowly they both leaned in, and their lips clashed together, bringing them back to reality.
"I'm, sorry. I didn't mean to--"
"Ava tried apologizing, but was stopped by Drake.
"It's fine. It's not entirely your fault. Anyways we were talking about our next move."
"Yes, we need a solid plan," Ava said blushing out of embarrassment.
Kelly who was lurking around the whole time showed up, and they all decided to carry out the plan.
Ava, Drake and Kelly huddled around the sketch, planning a stealthy infiltration.
"Kelly, can you disable the wards?" Ava asked.
"I can try, Kelly replied. But the elders magic is unpredictable."
Drake nodded.
"I'll provide distraction at the western entrance. Ava you'll slip in through the eastern tunnel."
Ava reviewed the plan, her mind racing with contingencies.
"Timing is crucial," Ava said. "Kelly you'll have five minutes to disable the wards. Drake, your distraction must last three minutes."
As they synchronized their watches, Kelly spoke up.
"There's something else. A rumor about Axel's conditioning..."
Ava's heart skipped a beat.
"What is it?" Ava pressed.
"He's being programmed to recognize and eliminate potential threats," Kelly said. "Including you, Ava."
Ava's determination hardened.
"We'll deal with that when the time comes," Ava said.
The trio set out, their mission hanging in the balance.
As they approached the stronghold, Ava felt a presence watching her.
Ava subtly nodded to Drake and Kelly, alerting them to the potential threat.
Drake's gaze swept the perimeter, his eyes narrowing.
"I sense it too," Drake whispered. "Keep moving, we can't afford delays."
Kelly's eyes gleamed in the darkness.
"I'll take point. My... particular skills will come in handy."
"Ava followed Kelly, Drake covering their rare. The presence lingered, unseen but palpable.
Upon reaching the eastern tunnel, Kelly began disabling the wards. Drake created a diversion at the western entrance, drawing guard patrols."
Ava slipped into the tunnel, her heart pounding. The darkness seem to swallow her whole.
As she moved deeper, Axel's scent grew stronger. Ava's determination hardened.
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows- a woman with piercing gold eyes.
"You shouldn't have come," she said, her voice dripping venom.
Ava recognized the voice- Erica, an old enforcer.
Ava swiftly called our for Drake's assistance, knowing Erica's reputation.
"Drake! Need backup!" she shouted.
Erica sneered.
"Too late for that," Erica sneered, summoning the dark energy.
Drake burst into the tunnel, his fangs bared.
"Take Ava and go!" Drake ordered, charging at Erica.
Ava hesitated, unwilling to leave Drake.
"Go!" Drake repeated, his eyes locked on Erica.
Ava sprinted deeper into the tunnel, Erica's curses echoing behind.
As Ava turned a corner, she stumbled upon Axel's cell.
"Axel!" Ava exclaimed, rushing to his side.
Axel's eyes flickered, recognition sparking.
"Ava?" Axel whispered.
Suddenly, Axel's expression turned twisted.
No... Ava's dead," Axel growled, his eyes flashing with feral intensity.
Ava's heart sank.
She quickly restrained Axel, holding him in a firm grip.
"Axel, snap out of it!" Ava pleaded.
Axel struggled, his enhance strength testing Ava's resolve.
Just as Ava feared losing control, Kelly appeared injecting Axel with sedative.
"Temporary solution," Kelly said. "We need to break the conditioning."
Drake joined them, Erica's defeat evident in his demeanor.
"We have few minutes before reinforcement arrive," Drake warned.
Ava nodded.
"Get Axel out, i will find the conditioning source."
Kelly and Drake hesitated, then nodded.
As they escaped with Axel, Ava sprinted towards the strongholds core.
She discovered a hidden chamber filled with ancient artifacts and a central console.
Ava frantically searched for the conditioning protocol.
Suddenly, the console beeped, displaying an ominous message:
Conditioning Protocol: Iris. initiated.
Ava's eyes widened.
She quickly destroyed the console, sparking chain reaction of explosions.
"Mission accomplished," Ava whispered, fleeing the crumbling stronghold.
