THE COMEBACK
“Mom, babe, wake up. We're here.” They still did not open their eyes. My mom just made a sound in her mouth. “Mom, babe...”
Instead of opening up her eyes, my mom snored louder. Seth, on the other side, almost collapsed to the backseat. His shoulders jerked and suddenly woke up. He looked at me with his red eyes and lips in a thin line. He just stared at me before he spoke. “Where are we?”
“In our house.”
He eyed our house through the car's window. Our house still appeared the same from its last image on my head—red roof, windows made of glass, brown door, and the yellow walls that from the outside looked like made of planks. The grass in our front yard grew taller. The fences were covered in dust.
“Let's go,” he invited after pulling himself together. He yawn
