Chapter 4
HATE IS A WEAK EMOTION.
I didn’t understand where Ayuna’s hate came from. I had not done anything to her… yet. As long as she does not harm me, I will not do the same to her. She might be insecure because I caught the attention of the person she likes. I couldn’t tell if they were dating, but I think they were not more than friends. If they were, then Seth should have taken advantage of her using their label. I did not see them show any intimacy.
“It’s early in the morning, and you are already frowning.”
My gaze went to the screen of my cellphone. I was currently having a video call with Rose. The sound of the water hitting the tiles of the bathroom reverberated on the line. She put shampoo on her hair and rubbed it.
“How can you see me? Your eyes were closed,” I said.
She faced me but did not dare to open her eyes. The bubble covered her forehead. “I peeked through my pretty eyelashes.”
I shrugged. “Okay.”
“Really, what’s wrong?” she fired me a question when she continued to comb her hair. She positioned her head under the shower. “You’re spacing out.”
“I was just thinking if I am being mean to people.”
“Yes, you are. Why did you have to ask that?”
“Have I been mean to them all my life?”
“Not really.”
“So I wonder if I deserve to be called as a b***h. I get it, I am harsh when I am talking, but I never used such words to call someone… or had I?” I looked at her only to find out that she was also staring back at me.
She rinsed her hair one last time and turned off the water. She put on her bath robe. and went to the her cabinet. Rose was very strict when it comes to the location of her things. She hated when she can’t find something because it was misplaced. The same rule apply to us even as her best friends. She took out the hair blower from the cabinet and held it like a gun. She pointed it to the mirror in front of her. “Who said you were a b***h?”
“Someone unimportant.”
“I know the level of your speaking, and although most of the times you speak harsh to a person, to us, you never insulted anyone that would lead to them calling you with a bad name. Tell me, who was that? I will go over there and make them taste—”
“Stop being a war freak.”
“Well.” She just shrugged at me. “Can’t help it. I don’t like anyone calling you that word but me. They don’t have the right.”
“And you do?” I asked.
“Of course because I know every part of your body and being, and you know that when I call you by such word, it does not necessarily mean to offend you because you were not that type of person.”
I smiled, and so did she. She turned on her blower and started drying her hair. I told her I would have to take a bath because I am going to enroll in a new school now. I brought my phone to the bathroom and undressed myself while she was busy in fixing herself.
“Do you know what your school is like?”
My hand suspended from getting the bottle of strawberry-scented body wash. Actually, I had no idea on what the schools look like in this place. Our school, I meant the school in the cities, were huge to accommodate hundreds of students from different grade level. In our university, we had five sections for every year. With that number of students and tuition fee paid, we had a great facilities. I heard students who visit our school envied almost everything about us. School uniform? It was one of the reasons why there were always many enrollees. White polo under a maroon coat. The seal of our university was embroidered on the right chest pocket and above was our names written in metal template. The polo was tucked in the maroon skirt or maroon slacks, depends on our choice. I preferred wearing the skirt that was just an inch above the knee perhaps because I have a fair skin, and it’s no use if I am not going to flaunt it. Then, the facilities. We had all the facilities needed by a learner, and they were too many to list down.
So, how is the school in the place look like?
“I don’t know,” I answered after a minute of missing my old school. “I hope it reaches half of my expectations.”
“And what is one of the things you expect?” I can tell her hair was nearly dried. She crossed her arms on her chest. Her chest, which was bigger than me—I know and I’m not insecure—formed a line on the center, her cleavage which was one of her assets, why boys would love to spend a night with her.
“Uniform!”
She facepalmed. She shook her head and tsked. “I already knew that. Anything else aside from that?”
“The students? I hope they are handsome.” I clasped my hands together and imagined to have a prince charming like what was written on the book, but they were mostly untrue. Those scenes which I dreamed of seeing in reality had not happen… yet. “Let me take a bath first, please.”
Rose laughed and shoved me away. “It’s not my fault that you cannot do two things at the same time.”
I rolled my eyes and continued taking a bath while I heard from the background noise her complaints about their schedule.
“I’m done. I have to go out now,”
I looked at the camera. Looking beautiful as ever, Rose effortlessly sported out her rugged outfit. She flipped her hair and sprayed perfume. My friend waved her hand at me, not turning off the phone yet. I scoffed as I saw her grabbed her purse and put the phone in which I assumed was the phone stand of the car. She did not have a car, so who’s the owner?
I raised my brow, waiting for her to introduce the person to me. I did not know if she forgot to end the call. Therefore, if the person who she is with now tried to peep on her screen, he or she will definitely see me topless. Cool.
“Great, Rose. Do you plan for the world to see me naked?”
Rose’s eyes opened wide. She quickly took the phone to her chest. There was a chuckle on the other line. A man’s chuckle. She covered her phone with her hands and apologized.
“I’m sorry. I just forgot.”
“Are you that excited to meet him?”
She glared at me. A glare that told me to not embarrass her being overly prepared for her man.
“Who is he?”
Sighing, she faced the phone to the man. It’s now my turn to look so surprised.
“Did you just show my body to someone?”
“b***h, no! I covered the screen,” she defended. The man wore a black button down shirt. His hair was waxed to my side. I saw his stubble. His skin was a bit dark, but it suited him well. “This is Reji.”
Reji? “Your brother?”
“Yes, bitch.”
“That’s not how he was like when you showed me a picture of him!”
Reji smirked. I heard Rose panicked. We’re now staring at each other.
“Seriously, he was so different from the one you showed me!”
I totally forgot that I was taking a bath.
“Because that was his picture five years ago!”
“What did she tell you?” It was not Rose. I bet it was from Reji. His voice was not that deep. Honestly, it was playful. He must be using it for flirting with the girls, and his voice did an easy job for him. “Why not tell it to me? I’ll treat you when you come here.”
“I have money,” I plainly said.
“Why are you not showing her to me, Rose? Why do you have to be so cruel?”
“Because she’s naked, bro!”
“It’s okay. It’s not like I haven’t seen your wood-like figure when we were young. Besides, whoever is my sister’s sister is also my sister.”
“That was when we were young, and she’s not your sister or girlfriend, so stop!”
“We’re not young anymore, so why is your chest still like that?”
Rose was already irritated. I watched her closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
“Come on, Rose!”
“Back off, p*****t!”
Her image of pushing someone played in my mind. She was strong and her hands were kind of heavy, so I hoped that her brother will not have a bruise.
“I have to hang up now, or else, Reji will not stop asking about you.”
“I’m not asking about her.”
“Really?” She faced him. “Stop hitting on her, dude! You might wake up one day being bald, and I swear that you will not like that. Of all the people in this world, do not play with my sister.”
“See? She is your sister, so she is also my sister,” he insisted.
“You can’t be my sister because you are adopted.” Rose glanced at me. “See you when I see you. Finish your bath.”
“Aye, aye.”
“Take care—”
“Take care of yourself, sister!” Reji shouted.
Rose’s face frowned. “But I am your sister!”
“But I am adopted, so that is impossible.”
I breathed out. This will not end. I had known Paine, her brother, since we were ten years old, and he was totally different from Reji. His attitude shocked me.
“See you, babe!”
I clicked the end button.
