The ceremony hall fell into terrifying silence.
Selena could barely breathe as every wolf in the room stared directly at her.
The injured guard pointed shakily toward her again.
“The rogues are looking for the girl with the silver mark.”
Fear wrapped around Selena instantly.
Why would rogue wolves want her?
She didn’t even understand what the silver mark meant.
Outside, violent howls echoed through the kingdom again.
Closer this time.
Screams erupted from distant buildings while warriors rushed through the palace gates with weapons drawn.
Chaos swallowed the once-beautiful ceremony.
Kael Draven’s face darkened dangerously.
“How many rogues crossed the border?” he demanded coldly.
“At least fifty,” the guard answered weakly. “More are coming.”
Gasps spread through the hall.
Fifty rogues?
That was impossible.
Rogues rarely worked together unless controlled by someone powerful.
Which meant this attack was planned carefully.
And somehow…
Selena was the target.
Elder Miriam grabbed Selena’s wrist suddenly, staring fearfully at the glowing silver mark.
“You must leave immediately.”
Selena blinked in confusion.
“Leave? Where would I even go?”
“Far away from this kingdom.”
Kael stepped forward instantly.
“She goes nowhere.”
His voice carried absolute authority.
The elder looked horrified.
“My King, if the rogues truly came for her, keeping her here will endanger everyone.”
Kael’s silver eyes shifted toward Selena slowly.
Cold.
Sharp.
Unreadable.
Yet Selena noticed something strange beneath his expression.
Protectiveness.
Small.
Hidden.
But there.
“This kingdom is under my control,” Kael said calmly. “No rogue touches what belongs to me.”
Selena’s heartbeat stumbled again.
What belongs to me.
Even after rejecting her, he still spoke like that.
It made no sense.
Suddenly—
BOOM.
The giant palace doors exploded inward violently.
Women screamed.
Smoke and dust filled the hall instantly while several warriors were thrown across the floor.
Then the rogues entered.
Massive wolves with blood-red eyes and black markings covered their bodies. Their growls echoed through the hall like nightmares come alive.
The crowd panicked immediately.
“Protect the Alpha King!”
“Get the women out!”
“Move!”
Kael stepped in front of Selena instinctively.
Power rolled off him so violently the air itself seemed to shake.
For the first time, Selena saw why the entire kingdom feared him.
His silver eyes glowed dangerously.
Monster against monsters.
The lead rogue slowly shifted into human form.
Tall.
Scarred.
Terrifying.
Then his eyes landed directly on Selena.
“There she is.”
Selena froze.
The rogue smiled darkly.
“The Lunar Wolf.”
The words sent shock through the entire hall.
Kael’s expression hardened instantly.
“You know what she is?”
The rogue laughed softly.
“Oh, we know exactly who she is.”
Selena’s chest tightened painfully.
Nobody was explaining anything.
“What are you talking about?” she whispered.
But nobody answered her.
The rogue’s eyes remained fixed on her like a predator staring at prey.
“Our master has searched years for you.”
Fear crawled through Selena’s body instantly.
Master?
What master?
Kael’s aura turned deadly again.
“You entered my kingdom without permission,” he said coldly. “That was your first mistake.”
The rogue grinned.
“And rejecting the Lunar Wolf was yours.”
The atmosphere changed instantly.
Kael’s jaw tightened slightly.
Even the rogues knew about the rejection already.
Humiliation burned through Selena again.
But before anyone could speak—
The rogue suddenly lunged toward her.
Everything happened too fast.
Selena gasped as claws flashed toward her throat.
Then—
CRACK.
Kael intercepted the attack instantly.
The force of his punch sent the rogue flying across the hall and crashing through a stone pillar.
The entire palace shook.
Selena stared in shock.
Kael slowly turned his head toward her.
“Stay behind me.”
His voice was calm.
But absolutely lethal.
And for the first time in her life…
Selena truly understood what it meant to stand beside the strongest Alpha alive.
