Chapter Thirty-Three The footman showed Perry to a sitting room and asked him to wait while he fetched his master. Perry stayed standing, bracing himself for what was to come. His jaw kept wanting to clench. He examined the room, trying to find clues as to its owner’s character. There were no ladies’ magazines on the side tables, no pretty china figurines on the mantelpiece. The armchairs were sturdy, upholstered with dark leather, and a row of decanters was openly displayed on the sideboard. A bachelor’s room.
