Chapter Thirty-Five Wintersmith refused to elaborate further, which was prodigiously frustrating. When he reached Oxford Street, he turned east. He walked fast, keeping to the main thoroughfares. Violet was forced to follow him at a distance. The streets became busier, the people frequenting them less affluent. Wintersmith stopped and purchased something from a street vendor. The man’s voice drifted up: “Penny pies! Eel, beef, and mutton pies! Pies all hot!” Wintersmith ate while he walked. Two streets further on, he bought another pie and consumed that, too.
