Chapter Twenty-One Cold horror swept through him. Lady Violet couldn’t be here. Not while Saintbridge had a pistol in his hand. “Go away!” Perry cried loudly. Saintbridge fired. The bullet struck not far from Perry’s face. Chips of brick went flying. One collided stingingly with his temple. Perry flinched and almost lost his grip on the chimney. He grabbed hold more tightly. “Go away!” he cried again, shouting up at the sky.
