Chapter 1 - The Progenitor

1838 Words
Year 2040     ‘Yawn…’     “Sis, you need to wake up, we’ve got another full day ahead of us,” Kura Amachi, one of the two Amachi sisters, was trying to wake up her older sibling. space     “Mhmm, a few more minutes and I’ll be up,” her older sister Rikona sleepily replied.     “No can do, you know as well as I do that if you go back to sleep, you’ll be out till next year, c’mon get up!”     Her younger sister grabbed and pulled on the sheets, bringing the pillows, covers and yes, her sister to the ground, “Eeeh!!”     The sudden jolt instantly shocked her awake. “Kyaah!!” she wore an ugly expression as she rubbed her butt and tried to clear her head.     “What the crap Kura?!!! I told you to stop doing that!” Rikona angrily asserted.     Meanwhile, her sister simply stared at her saying, “I wouldn’t have to keep doing that if you woke up on time. I swear it’s the only thing I never understand with you, hehe,” She started laughing as she saw the indignant look on her sister’s face.     Rikona’s face slowly softened as she saw the laughing face of her younger half, before chuckling a little herself while looking down.     The Amachi sisters were, for the most part, two researchers or scientists if you prefer. They were widely known for their near peerless beauty and intelligence.     From both their heads cascaded ebony hair that graced their figures all the way to their lower back.     Rikona, the older one, exuded a mature and seductive allure that demanded and would keep your attention. Her jade-white skin was a feast for the eyes, yet still, she walked with an air of authority, exuding a power that came from the very core of her being.     Her younger sister, on the other hand, was only slightly shorter and radiated a playful charm and a cute temperament that did not lose out to her sister in the slightest. Additionally, her beautiful ebon hued dark skin tone both complimented and was complemented in turn by her sister’s jade white.     This was one of the most striking characteristics about them. Though they were sisters, their skin colour differed as polar opposites, but it certainly created a greater beauty than they possessed on their own.     They both lived and worked at ‘Exélixi Research Institute’ a cutting edge research facility that probed the construct of the human body in its entirety but placing more emphasis on the brain to unlock all its secrets.     However, the sisters took this one step further and were trying to break through and explore the very mysticisms that lied within the human body.     As far-fetched as it may sound, their goal was indeed noble, but what was their objective? It is something that skimmed the very realm of impossibility. They wished to ignite a sort of forced growth or progression to somehow allow human beings to become a better form of themselves.     Be it faster, stronger, smarter or otherwise they wished for a particular sort of evolution and even more so wanted to help humanity in this step. However, they discovered something shocking in their research.     Recently, they learned that few select humans in times past had already possessed the very traits they were looking to trigger in their own race.     Rikona looked up at her sister as she held the notes she read not for the first time now, “I see the results here, but even now I can hardly believe it. Certain people from back then seemed to have possessed the very things we’re looking for but… how is that possible?”     Her sister nodded as it puzzled her as well, “I know, it’s strange, it was only mere speculation at first, but now it all makes sense. Nicola Tesla, Albert Einstein, the entirety of the Mayans, a large portion of the Egyptians.”     Kura listed just some of the existences that their research had referenced.     She stared back at her sister who had ‘the look of contemplation’ on her face, something she would subconsciously do when she was deep in thought. She would take her fingers and massage her chin, playing with her non-existent beard.     Her younger sister had always found it cute and smiled sweetly before she finally stated, “Then again, to be honest, it does make sense. I mean, look at all the things they created. There are objects that even now are considered ridiculously advanced despite them being built so long ago. Things that continue to stump the so-called great minds of today.”     Little did they know that they would soon, in ways they never fathomed, find the answers they were looking for. Answers that would change the very course of their lives and set fire to a path not yet walked.     While the two worked, another person entered their lab. Under normal circumstances, no researcher could enter another researcher’s lab. A special access card was needed to gain entry in the first place. Therefore, the new arrival was someone who the two sisters trusted wholeheartedly.     However, they didn’t notice his entrance. The newcomer didn’t mind this either, he just looked and simply smiled. He knew they often got lost in their research and would ironically forsake the world for the sake of their world.     “Eh?”     When they finally took a breather, they noticed the newcomer, and with a confused expression, Rikona asked, “Makoto, when did you come in? Didn’t we tell you to only come and find us during lunchtime?” Rikona lightly scolded Makoto, who only looked at them both with a helpless expression.     He simply hummed before silently pointing to the clock at the far wall. The time was currently 12:21 PM. They slightly blushed when they saw the time. It would appear that they lost track of everything around them again.     Makoto simply stated, “You two have got a knack for getting lost while staying in one place, truly impressive.”     He smiled and continued, “Come on, let’s get some food in you, no good working on an empty stomach.”     Makoto was a long-time friend of the two who frequently helped them when they hit a wall in their research.     “So, did anything interesting pop up while you were in your trance?” Makoto knew they only really got like that when they were onto something and had to chase it to the end.     Rikona pouted and answered, “Don’t you know you’re not supposed to ask about other people’s research? Really, you don’t have any etiquette.”     “Ouch, that one hit me right here, who said words can’t hurt,” replied Makoto while pointing to his chest.     “Hahaha, don’t be too hard on him sis, lots of people want to get in on our research. Besides, Makoto’s our friend,” Kura defended him while grabbing onto one of his arms, burying it in her chest while she followed.     Makoto’s face reddened in front of Kura’s teasing. He wasn’t involved with them romantically, but which guy wouldn’t react when someone as cute as Kura held their arm in the middle of her very ample chest.     They just reached the cafeteria and were about to order when a laugh came from behind that darkened all three of their expressions. They turned around and just as they expected, there walked up to them a man in his early 30s.     He looked at the two girls with a lustful expression as even their lab coats failed to hide their devastating figures. He took in an eyeful before he said anything.     “You two young sisters are truly getting more and more beautiful, I wonder when you’ll let me in that lab of yours, hehe hehe…”     They didn’t know if he was referring to their actual lab or not, but they didn’t intend to figure it out, afraid the answer would make them sick.     Rikona returned his ‘greeting,’ with a somewhat forced-smile, “Hello Mayuri, we were just getting some food, so we’ll be on our way.”     He stared at her with lascivious eyes before he offered, “Why don’t I join you all?”     “No thanks, we’d like to keep our food down after we eat it if you don’t mind,” Makoto quickly declined in place of the girls. He knew they couldn’t stand him, so he spared the man the courtesy extended to humans.     Mayuri glared at Makoto and before curtly replying, “Well, Makoto I didn’t ask you now did I?”     “No, you didn’t, but then again I just love being a prick to self-entitled s**t stains much like yourself. So, you know, no charge,” Makoto felt satisfied in himself as he finished his line with a grin and walked away with both girls, while Mayuri stood there sneering in their direction.     While holding his arm, Kura looked up at him and said: “thank you.”     He stared back at her and smiled before replying, “please, people like him who only know how to use people and then throw them away after shouldn’t be given the time of day at any time.”     It wasn’t surprising that such a meeting killed any appetite they had worked up, but if the prize was to get away from Mayuri, it was worth it.     Makoto was always at odds with Mayuri; however, he couldn’t do much to him as Mayuri had extremely close ties to the mysterious head researcher at their facility, Machyal Cheever. As a result, he doesn’t have as much weight as he would like to.     Still, Mayuri was just as powerless to do anything to Makoto as well. The Amachi sisters, though they would like to remain low profile. Their research, unorthodox as it may be, was having signs of a breakthrough.     This, coupled with their young age at 22 and 24 respectively classified them as prodigies among their peers. Because of this, they wielded considerable influence at the institute, and as everyone knows, they and Makoto are close, he can be counted to be somewhat under their umbrella.     After taking a walk through the scenic route of the Institute’s grounds to wash their minds of an uncomfortable encounter. He walked them back to their lab and waved them goodbye, saying he would come to find them a few days later.
