I was sitting in math class, which, I often looked forward too even though I hated math. It was one of the few classes I had with my best friend, CJ. We had been instant best friends ever since she moved here in fifth grade. We sat right next to each other, and we often talked and passed notes to pass the time.
Since the teacher, Mr. Moraine, had seemed preoccupied in lesson about "The Wild World of Fractions", I slowly ripped a sheet of clean paper out of my notebook, to avoid making any sounds that would alert the teacher. Glancing up, I knew he hadn't noticed and quickly scribbled out my message.
"Hey Girl! I met the new girl today! " it read
Passing it carefully, it almost startled her, she had been falling asleep. She hated math too. The teacher was super cool, but it still didn't change that a math class, was still, a math class.
She took the note and quickly scribbled something down, while pretending to go over her notes. Then, when Mr. Moraine, turned his back, she slid it back to me.
Not moving my gaze from the teacher, I opened the note. When I was absolutely certain he wasn't watching, I read the note.
"I had heard about a new girl. Whats she like?"
Our school was fairly small, my graduating class only had about 100 kids in it. So, it wasn't all that shocking that news travelled that quickly. It was one of the advantages of living in a small town. It was also a curse, as I liked to call it sometimes.
I quietly scribbled back,
"She seems really shy. I invited her to come sit us at lunch today."
CJ, upon reading my reply, gave me a silent nod of approval. She was once "the new girl" too, after all. I didn't think she would oppose. CJ was always very calm and laid back. She was pretty shy, though, as I was the more outgoing friend.
The bell finally rang, and we were once again thrust into the labirynth of teenage drama and hormonal rage. A girl was sobbing at her locker. A skinny, bookish guy was getting shot down by a pretty blonde cheerleader. A few couples passionately kissed against the corridor, not caring who seen, while a teacher tried to break them up. A couple guys were play wrestling and chasing each other. A girl checked her makeup in a small mirror in her locker. All while people shoved and pushed through to get their destination. It was lunchtime.
CJ and I made our way to the school's cafeteria. Finally approaching the large push-doors, we made our way through, and found a place to wait in line.
"Hey." a familiar voice said.
Turning around, I seen that it was Belle.
"Hey, girl, this is my best friend-"
"CJ." Belle finished coolly.
"Yeah, I didn't realize you already met." I said with a smile.
Weird, she didn't mention anything earlier... I thought but shrugged it off.
Just then, I started to feel a dull pain in the front of my skull. I frequently get migraines, so I made a mental note to take some aspirin after lunch. I always kept some in locker, just in case.
"No, we haven't actually." CJ chimed in, a little wierded out.
"Oh, Brandi mentioned you this morning."
I didn't remember mentioning CJ, but I'm usually really groggy in the morning, so I just went with it.
My headache started to get a bit worse, with me ears ringing slightly. I squeezed my eyes shut for a minute to allow to the sharp pain to pass. It eventually did after a minute or so. I heard CJ explain to Belle about my headaches, because she asked why I was wincing. After I opened my eyes, CJ had a glass of water and some aspirin for me. She had some in her purse.
"Girl, you are the best, for real, thanks so much! " I graciously accepted the aspirin and gulped down the water.
It was almost our time to get lunch, and today was Friday, which was pizza day. School cafeteria has a bad reputation, but our school's pizza was so good!
CJ and I began telling Belle which foods to avoid, like the jell-o. Finally we made our way to the front and grabbed our milks and pizza, and made our way to usually table.
As we sat down, I watched CJ and Belle talk for a bit. CJ was very kind, but usually very quiet and reserved around new people. But here she was excitedly chatting with Belle and laughing as if they had known each other all thier lives. It always so wonderful to see her so lively, and hitting it off so well with someone right away.
I loved CJ dearly, and she is really a wonderful and loyal friend. She always seemed to have a hard time making other friends because she was so painfully shy. She always worried about what others thought of her, so she never really talked to anyone.
She was always getting teased because of her red hair, and freckles. I always thought it was a dumb reason to tease someone, just based one looks. I thought her hair was really pretty. It was a deep auburn, and full of thick, natural curls. She hated them though, and normally wore her hair in a tight bun at the nape of her neck to avoid any unwanted attention.
CJ was very insecure about her looks even though she was super pretty. She had a great figure, and if I'm being honest, I was kinda super jealous of her chest. She "blossomed", as my grandmother called it, over the summer. Well, let's just say my b cup was a far scream from her d cup.
She had a great complextion too, and rarely broke out. She also had pale blonde eyebrows and eyelashes, which the boys in my class often tormented her about. I always thought it unique and kinda cool though.
My headache was starting to dull a bit, as I mused and drank my chocolate milk. I glanced back to my two friends still giggling wildy over a story from Belle's previous school in Georgia.
"Brandi, you good?" Belle asked.
"Yeah, I get migraines from time to time. It's no biggie."
"Well, I'm glad you're alright" she said with a tone of warm senecerity to it.
"Well, I'm glad you invited Belle to sit with us today, she's so freaking funny!" CJ said, clutching my shoulder while giggling. "Seriously I'm glad you're okay though." she smiled.
"Yeah dude, thanks again for having my back, back there. I have never had one so intense like that."
"No worries, but yeah, you kinda scared me!"
"Well, I'm good now, it's going away." I reassured her.
We had finished eating, so I grabbed my tray and waited for CJ, so we could show Belle where to take our trays.
