When the matron greeted me with a thin-lipped smile, I felt uneasy and wondered why she was acting nice to me. Not just her, but the chef also presented me with the largest chicken on the platter. "Enjoy your meal, dear," he said, and I looked around feeling extremely uncomfortable, glad that none of the girls had noticed. Even the usually stern PE instructor cracked a smile when he passed by. Their kindness to me seemed insincere; it was crazy how things had changed around here.
