The Gala

As I stood in front of the mirror, my mom and Lisa fussed over me, making sure every detail of my outfit was perfect. I was wearing a stunning white gown, its delicate lace and intricate embroidery sparkling in the light. "Wow, Sonia, you look breathtaking," my mom said, stepping back to admire me. Lisa nodded in agreement. "You're going to turn heads tonight, ma'am." I blushed, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. This was my first time attending a high-society gala, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Just then, the doorbell rang. "That must be Michael," my mom said, smiling. Lisa hurried to answer the door, and a moment later, Michael appeared in the doorway. He looked dashing in a white tuxedo, his eyes sparkling as he took in my appearance. We both froze, our eyes locked on each other. It wasn't until we heard Lisa's gentle cough that we realized we were wearing matching outfits. Michael's face broke into a wide smile. "I guess we think alike," he said, chuckling. I laughed, feeling a sense of wonder. It was as if fate was conspiring to bring us together. Michael offered me his arm, and I took it, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. We said our goodbyes to my mom and Lisa, and then William, Michael's driver, escorted us to the car. As we drove to the gala, Michael and I chatted about everything from our favorite books to our childhood memories. It was effortless, like we'd known each other for years. When we arrived at the gala, the paparazzi swarmed around us, snapping photos and shouting questions. "Michael, who's the beautiful woman on your arm tonight?" one of the reporters asked. Michael smiled and wrapped his arm around me. "This is Sonia, the most important woman in my life right now. I have strong feelings for her, and I'm excited to see where our relationship goes." The reporters started firing off questions, and Michael answered them with ease. "Are you saying your playboy days are over, Michael?" one of them asked. Michael nodded, his expression serious. "From the moment I met Sonia, I knew I was ready to settle down. I'm looking forward to a future with her." The reporters turned to me, bombarding me with questions. "Sonia, what do you think about Michael's reputation as a playboy?" one of them asked. I smiled, feeling a sense of calm wash over me. "I think Michael is a kind and genuine person who has been misunderstood by the media. I've gotten to know him, and I believe he's truly changed." Another reporter asked, "Do you think Michael is really ready to settle down?" I nodded, my heart full of conviction. "I do. Michael is a man of his word, and I trust him completely." As we entered the gala, Michael's father, Jeffrey Rogers, approached us. He was a tall, imposing man with a kind face. "Michael, my boy, you look great," he said, shaking Michael's hand. Michael smiled. "Thanks, Dad. I'd like you to meet Sonia." Jeffrey's eyes lit up as he took my hand. "It's lovely to meet you, Sonia. I've heard great things about you." I smiled, feeling a sense of warmth towards Jeffrey. As the night wore on, Michael and I danced and laughed together, enjoying each other's company. We were having the time of our lives, and I couldn't believe how perfect everything felt. But then, Rebecca appeared at our side, a sly smile spreading across her face. "Michael, darling, I'd like you to meet someone," she said, her eyes glinting with malice. That's when I saw him - Carlos, my ex-husband. My heart sank, and I felt a wave of panic wash over me. Rebecca's smile grew wider as she introduced Carlos to Michael. "Carlos is a business associate of mine," she said. "We've been working together on a few projects." I tried to keep my cool, but it was no use. I felt like I was going to pass out. Michael noticed my distress and immediately came to my side. "Sonia, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice low and concerned. But I couldn't answer. I just shook my head and ran out of the ballroom, tears streaming down my face. Michael followed close behind, catching up to me in the hallway. "Sonia, what's going on?" he asked again, his eyes filled with worry. I took a deep breath and tried to calm down. "Carlos...he's my ex-husband," I said, the words tumbling out of my mouth. Michael's expression changed from concern to shock. "I had no idea," he said. "I'm so sorry, Sonia." He took me in his arms and held me close, letting me cry out my emotions. After a few moments, he gently led me out of the gala and into his car. As we drove away from the gala, Michael asked me if I was okay, and I nodded, still feeling a bit shaken. He took my hand in his and held it gently, offering me comfort and reassurance. When we arrived at my house, Michael walked me to the door and turned to me with a serious expression. "Sonia, I have something important to ask you," he said, his eyes locked on mine. My heart skipped a beat as I wondered what he was going to say. "What is it, Michael?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Michael took a deep breath and smiled. "Sonia, from the moment I met you, I knew that you were someone special. I love spending time with you, and I feel a connection with you that I've never felt with anyone before. I was wondering if you would like to be my girlfriend?" My heart soared as I heard his words. I had been hoping that he would ask me this, and I couldn't believe that it was finally happening. "Yes, Michael, I would love to be your girlfriend," I said, smiling up at him. Michael's face lit up with joy, and he pulled me into his arms. "I'm so happy, Sonia," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "I promise to always be there for you, to support you and love you no matter what." As he spoke, he leaned in and pressed his lips to mine. It was a soft, gentle kiss, but it sent shivers down my spine. I felt like I was melting into his arms, like I was home. As we pulled away from each other, Michael smiled and took my hand again. "I love you, Sonia," he said, his eyes shining with emotion. I smiled back at him, feeling my heart full of love for this kind and caring man. "I love you too, Michael," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. As we stood there, holding hands and looking into each other's eyes, I knew that this was just the beginning of our journey together. And I couldn't wait to see what the future held for us.
