Gabriel's Day Out With Michael

836 Words
Saturday morning arrived, and Gabriel was bubbling with excitement. Today was the day he would play football with Michael on his private field. I made breakfast for Gabriel, and as we ate, I reminded him of the plans for the day. "Don't forget, Gabriel, Michael's sending his car to pick you up. You'll have a great time playing football with him." Gabriel grinned, his eyes shining with anticipation. "I know, Mum! I've been practicing my kicks." Just then, the doorbell rang. I got up to answer it, expecting to see Michael's driver. Instead, I saw two men standing at the door. One was a tall, imposing figure with a kind face, dressed in a sleek black suit. The other was a slender, bespectacled man with a friendly smile. "Good morning, Ms. Lawrence," the tall man said. "I'm William, Michael's driver. This is Ray, his assistant." Ray stepped forward, extending his hand. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Lawrence. Michael asked us to pick up Gabriel and bring him to the field." I shook their hands, feeling a sense of reassurance. "Nice to meet you both. Gabriel's ready to go. Let me just get his bag." As I handed Gabriel's bag to William, Gabriel appeared at my side, looking eager. "Bye, Mum! Have fun without me." I smiled, hugging him tight. "Have a great time, sweetie. Play well." With a final wave, Gabriel followed William and Ray to the car. As they drove away, I felt a sense of gratitude towards Michael. He was going out of his way to make Gabriel happy, and that meant the world to me.As soon as Gabriel left, I turned to my mom, who was sitting in the living room. "Mom, I'm glad Gabriel is excited about playing football with Michael today." My mom smiled. "I'm glad too, dear. By the way, I was thinking, would you like to accompany me to the hospital tomorrow? I have a check-up appointment." Just then, the doorbell rang again. "Lisa, could you get the door, please?" I called out. Lisa, our house maid, appeared from the kitchen. "Yes, ma'am." A moment later, Lisa returned with a delivery person carrying a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates. "These are for you, Ms. Sonia," the delivery person said. I was surprised. "Who are they from?" I asked. The delivery person checked the card. "They're from Mr. Michael Rogers. The card says, 'Thanks for a wonderful lunch and dinner yesterday. Looking forward to our next date." I blushed, feeling a flutter in my chest. My mom raised an eyebrow. "Looks like someone is smitten," she teased. I laughed, feeling a little self-conscious. "Mom, stop it." Meanwhile, Gabriel was having the time of his life with Michael. They played football on Michael's private field, laughing and joking together. As they took a break, Michael asked Gabriel, "Hey, kiddo, how did your mom cope raising you alone? You seem like a really well-adjusted kid." Gabriel thought for a moment before responding. "My mom worked really hard to take care of me. She always made sure I had everything I needed, even when things were tough." Michael's expression turned serious. "I can imagine. Your mom is a strong woman." After their break, Michael and Gabriel continued playing football, enjoying each other's company. As the day drew to a close, Michael offered to drop Gabriel home. As they pulled up to the house, I saw Michael's car and felt a surge of excitement. Gabriel jumped out of the car, grinning from ear to ear. "Thanks, Michael! I had an amazing time today." Michael smiled, ruffling Gabriel's hair. "Anytime, kiddo. You're a great player." As Gabriel ran into the house, Michael turned to me and smiled. "Hi again. I hope you're doing well." I smiled back, feeling a little shy. "Hi, Michael. Yeah, I'm doing great, thanks." My mom appeared at the door, a warm smile on her face. "Michael, dear, it's so nice to see you again." Michael walked over to my mom and hugged her. "Felicia, you look lovely as always." My mom laughed, patting his arm. "You're always so charming, Michael." As they chatted, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the way things were turning out. Gabriel was happy, my mom was smiling, and I had met someone special. Just then, Michael's phone rang. He excused himself to answer it, and I could hear him talking to someone about the charity gala that evening. As he hung up, he turned to me and said, "I almost forgot. I have to attend a charity gala tonight. Would you like to be my date?" I was taken aback by the invitation, but I couldn't deny the excitement that sparked within me. "I'd love to," I said, smiling up at him. Michael grinned, relief washing over his face. "Great. I'll pick you up at 7 pm." With a final smile, Michael got into his car and drove away, leaving me feeling happy and excited for what the future might hold.
