As we drove to Michael's place, i couldn't help but feel a little curious about his family. We pulled up to a grand mansion, and I gasped in awe.
"Welcome to the Rogers' mansion," Michael said with a smile, getting out of the car.
I followed him inside, and we walked through the opulent foyer to the staircase. Michael led me to his room, and I waited while he changed into a casual outfit.
When he emerged, looking handsome in a simple white T-shirt and jeans, I smiled in approval. "Much better," I said, teasing him.
Just then, a voice called out from downstairs. "Michael, darling, is that you?"
Michael's expression turned slightly wary. "That's my stepmom, Rebecca. Let's go say hello."
I followed him downstairs, feeling a little nervous. As we entered the living room, a tall, slender woman with piercing green eyes turned to face us.
Rebecca's gaze swept over me, her eyes narrowing slightly as she took in my appearance. "So, this is...?" she trailed off, her voice dripping with disdain.
Michael stepped forward, his arm possessively around my shoulders. "Rebecca, this is Sonia. We're going out on a date today."
Rebecca's smile was like ice. "How lovely. Welcome to our home, Sonia."
The way she said my name made my skin crawl. I smiled politely, trying to hide my unease. "Thank you, Mrs. Rogers."
Rebecca's eyes glinted with amusement. "Please, call me Rebecca. We're not formal here."
I sensed a veiled warning beneath her words, but Michael seemed oblivious to the tension. "We should get going, Sonia. I promised you a fun day."
As we turned to leave, Rebecca's voice stopped us. "Michael, darling, don't forget about the charity gala tonight. You promised to attend."
Michael's expression turned hesitant. "I hadn't forgotten, Rebecca. But I might be busy tonight."
Rebecca's eyes flashed with anger, but she quickly masked it with a sweet smile. "Oh, I'm sure Sonia wouldn't mind attending the gala with you, would you, dear?"
I felt a shiver run down my spine as Rebecca's gaze locked onto mine, the challenge clear in her eyes. What do you think I should say? I hesitated, unsure of how to respond to Rebecca's suggestion. Michael seemed to sense my unease and jumped in. "Actually, Rebecca, I think Sonia and I will have to discuss that later. We've got plans for today."
Rebecca's smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly recovered. "Of course, darling. I just thought it would be lovely for Sonia to meet some of our friends."
Michael's arm around my shoulders tightened slightly, a subtle signal that he was on my side. "We'll talk about it later, Rebecca. Sonia and I should get going."
We made our escape, leaving Rebecca's icy smile behind. As soon as we were outside, Michael let out a sigh of relief. "Sorry about that. My stepmom can be a bit...much."
I laughed. "That's one way to put it. But don't worry, I can handle myself."
Michael grinned. "I'm counting on it."
We drove to the park, enjoying the warm sunshine and the sound of birds singing. As we strolled around the lake, feeding the ducks and chatting, I felt a sense of ease with Michael that I hadn't expected.
He was easy to talk to, and we shared a similar sense of humor. I found myself laughing and smiling more and more as the day went on.
As the sun began to set, Michael suggested we grab some dinner at a nearby café. I agreed, and we sat down at a cozy table by the window.
Over dinner, our conversation turned more serious. Michael asked me about my past, about my son Gabriel and his father. I hesitated at first, unsure of how much to reveal, but Michael's kind eyes and listening ear put me at ease.
I told him about Carlos, about the pain and the heartache he had caused me. Michael listened attentively, his expression sympathetic.
When I finished, he reached out and took my hand. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that," he said, his voice filled with compassion. "But I'm glad you're here now, with me."
My heart skipped a beat as I looked into his eyes. I felt a spark of attraction, a sense of connection that went beyond physical appearance.
As we finished dinner and prepared to part ways, I realized that I didn't want the day to end. I wanted to spend more time with Michael, to get to know him better.
"Would you like to do it again sometime soon?" Michael asked, as if reading my mind.
I smiled, feeling a sense of excitement. "I'd love to."
And with that, our first date came to a close, but I had a feeling that this was just the beginning of something special.
