Chapter 10

857 Words
Maddie opened another box of fried rice that she bought earlier. She knew she should not be nervous by this but strangely, she did. She took a spoon and close her eyes when she taste it. Ah… It’s.. delicious… She then took another mouthful and chewed slowly. She did the same with the other box. Both were delicious! Ohh.. So it’s just about the way she cook? Maddie shrugged her shoulders and felt even more relieved. Turned out she was just afraid over nothing. Maybe she was just too tired from the moving and all her new tight schedule, so she often thought negatively about this house. She took that two portion of fried rice and sat on the couch in front of the tv and planned to eat while watching some movie. She was happy because nothing odd happen to her food. So she wanted to enjoy tonight’s dinner with a full happy tummy. Maddie’s eyes didn’t leave the screen while she was eating her food. An advertisement for a new cellphone came up. It had sophisticated camera that captures clear picture and more stable video results. She nodded looking at the ad. Ah if she had extra money, she would like to have one. After all, her cellphone was out of date. Did she need to look for the part time job? If she had a cellphone with a good camera she can take pictures of the beautiful scenery in this town. Who knows she could be a photographer, hehe… Eh? Wait a minute, did she forget about something? Photographer! That’s it! In her dream, she heard the young man said something about being a photographer. Could it be that thing he put in that drawer was… Holy s**t, Maddie immediately looked up towards a room on the second floor. With a quick movement she left her food and ran up to the stairs, towards the small room next to the main bedroom. She opened the door and turned on the light. It was already clean and tidy, all the furniture covers have been removed. In the corner, she saw the same wooden cupboard. It looked older than she had seen in her dream. She walked over to the cupboard. There were a total of five drawers on it. She saw that on each drawer there were old, torn small stickers. Some only show the former patch. Some of them were still there and she could see stickers with the shape of basket balls among them. She opened the drawers one by one and felt uneasy. As a person who likes detective stories and solving mystery cases, she seemed tried to solving one. She hoped to get something here, lead by her strange dream. But what if she did get something… wouldn't that be a little scary? She opened the last drawer and found nothing there. “Hahhh…” She let out her breath she didn’t realize was holding. Strangely she had this feeling where she didn't know if she was relieved or disappointed when she didn’t find anything. It’s just a weird dream, nothing more, she thought and closed the drawers again. Uh, what's that? She bent slightly and her eye caught something at the very end of the second drawer. Her heart pounded and she reached out her hand to take something that was there. She grabbed it, pulled out her hand only to see an old folded piece of paper. With shaky hands, she opened it and it's not just a paper. It was a photo. Polaroid photo folded in four. In it, there was a picture of a man sitting on the windowsill. He had his back to the camera. However, his face was turned slightly to the side and Maddie could see the side of his face in this photo. It was folded for a very long time, some part were already blurry. Maddie brought the photo closer until it almost touched her nose. From the stature and hairstyle, the man in this photo looked so familiar. His figure… was similar to that men in her dream. It’s… him? Maddie's hands shook even more. She could hear her heart beat drummed in her ears. She was panting when she was shivering all over in shock and disbelieve. Okay, maybe she just imagine it too much and it's just a coincidence that went too well. The light in this room was a bit dim and she wanted to see more in a brighter light. Maddie walked out of the room and went down the stairs back to the living room where she left her food. She kept staring at the photo and wished she was wrong. But the more she looked at it, the more similar and the familiar feeling grew stronger within her. She let out a trembling breath and looked towards the living room with the television still on. It was then, Ria felt her heart stop beating. Her blood run cold. She stopped, her legs couldn't move or take anymore steps. Her eyes were fixed in one place. She now knew, she was not alone in this house...
