I looked at the floor, mad at myself for letting Derek get me riled up like he had.
“Now, boys, what was that all about?” Father mindlinked to us, and his thoughts interrupted mine.
“I was just trying to be friendly”, I thought back. I wanted Hailey to feel welcome.
Derek shook his head slightly. I could tell he was trying to choose his thoughts carefully. “She’s my friend, I was just…concerned.”
