But when morning came, something inside her had changed.
The room looked different in the daylight.
The noise outside had already started again.
Lagos was awake.
And so was she.
She sat up slowly.
For a moment, she forgot where she was.
Then she remembered.
Lagos.
She looked at her bag.
She looked at the little Bible beside her.
Then she smiled.
She had arrived as a girl who was afraid of what was ahead.
She had arrived unsure of herself.
Unsure of her decision.
Unsure of what the future held.
But that morning, something was different.
She still had fears.
She still had questions.
But now, she also had courage.
Maybe she didn’t have a plan yet.
Maybe she didn’t know exactly what she was going to do.
But she was going to try.
She was going to look for work.
She was going to learn.
She was going to survive.
And maybe, just maybe, she was going to build something for herself.
She got up from the floor mat and folded it.
Her friend was still getting ready.
“Good morning,” her friend said.
“Good morning.”
“How did you sleep?”
She smiled.
“Lagos didn’t let me sleep.”
Her friend laughed.
“I told you.”
She laughed too.
And for the first time since she arrived, the city didn’t feel quite as frightening.
It was still loud.
Still busy.
Still unfamiliar.
But she was beginning to understand something.
Maybe Lagos wasn’t asking her to know everything immediately.
Maybe it was simply asking her to be brave enough to begin.
That was her first night in Lagos.
She barely slept.
But when morning came, something inside her had changed.
She had arrived as a girl who was afraid of what was ahead.
She woke up as a girl who knew she was going to try.
And sometimes, that is how a new life begins.
Not with certainty.
Not with a perfect plan.
Just with the decision to try.
