For the first time, she was completely on her own.
There would be no parent standing beside her to answer every question.
No familiar environment to run back to.
No one to make every decision for her.
She would have to learn.
She would have to make mistakes.
She would have to figure things out.
She didn’t know yet that some mistakes would hurt.
She didn’t know that some people would disappoint her.
She didn’t know that there would be days when she would question the decision she had made that morning.
She didn’t know that Lagos would demand more from her than she imagined.
She didn’t know that she would lose parts of herself along the way.
And she certainly didn’t know that one day she would have to find those parts again.
All she knew was that she was leaving home.
Not because she didn’t love it.
She loved home.
She loved the people who had raised her.
She loved the comfort of knowing where everything was.
She loved having somewhere familiar to return to.
But sometimes love and growth asked different things from you.
Sometimes you had to step away from what was familiar to discover what you were capable of.
She looked down at the small Bible her mother had given her.
She held it close.
Then she looked through the window again.
Lagos was ahead.
A new city.
A new chapter.
A new beginning.
She had no idea what was waiting for her there.
She had no idea how much she would change.
She had no idea how many times she would have to start again.
But she was going.
And maybe that was enough for now.
That was the year she left home.
Not because she had everything figured out.
Not because she was fearless.
Not because she knew exactly where life was taking her.
She left because something inside her whispered that there was more.
More to life.
More to her.
More to the girl she was becoming.
Lagos didn’t know her name yet.
It didn’t know her dreams.
It didn’t know her fears.
It didn’t know how many times she would fall and get back up.
It didn’t know the story she was carrying inside her.
But she was about to introduce herself.
And she had no idea that the girl who left home that morning would not be the same girl who eventually found her way back to herself.
