Chapter 9

I gasped at what I heard. There was only a month left and yet the wedding was canceled. I know my cousin he wouldn’t have called off the wedding if it was not something serious. So it being canceled means things went down bad. I asked for the details and the room exploded again. Allan sighed and raised his head. He explained to me what happened. Apparently, his fiancee, Clara, was cheating on him. It had been going on for five months and it didn’t seem like she was planning on ending it with the other guy soon. Thats why Allan decided to cancel their wedding. I took a vacant seat nearby. The room was full so I ended up sitting on an armchair of one of the sofas. I digested what I just heard. Allan and Clara had been dating for five years, and yet she cheated on him. The night ended with full of sighs, dismay, and calls to the people around us. All the invited guests were informed of the canceled wedding. I stayed still on my desk. I had my arm splattered on it and my head on top of my arm. Mondays really hit so hard, I didn’t want to do any work. The weekend ended in a blink. I sighed and looked at the papers on my desk. I haven’t done a single work since I got to the office. I took a scrunchie from my bag and ponytailed my hair. I needed to do some work. I ended up finishing all my work late. It was already 9pm when I checked my phone. I turned off my lights and walked out of my office then the building. I got out and noticed someone standing there. I stopped at my tracks when I recognized who was it. He had his back to me. Sensing my presence, he turned around and our gazes met. He smiled and waved his hands. “Hi.” “Hi? What brought you here?” “You left suddenly last time so I’m here to ask you out for dinner.” He said and approached me. My gaze went down and I noticed a silver thing on his wrist. Upon closer look, it was the gift I got him. He noticed my gaze so he raised his arm with the bracelet and shook it. “Thank you for the gift, by the way.” “You’re welcome.” I said while still looking at the bracelet. “So, dinner?” “Oh, um, sure.” I removed my gaze from the bracelet and instead lookedat his eyes. He smiled and asked me where I wanted to eat. “Up to you.” I answered trying to avoid his gaze. His gaze made me feel things that I couldn’t pinpoint. “Do you like sushi?” He asked again when I didn’t give him a direct answer. I nodded and he smiled and led me to his car. He was driving a jeep. It was a little high for making it a bit hard to get in. I was wearing a skirt so it made it even harder. Sebastian noticed me and tried helping me out. When he got in, he reached out for something at the back. Turns out it was his jacket, he handed it to me wordlessly. I took it and put it on my lap. “Um, by the way, I’m sorry for leaving suddenly last time. There was a situation at my parent’s house.” Hi brows furrowed looking concerned. “Is everything okay with your parents?” He asked. “Yes, they’re okay. It was my cousin, anyways lets not talk about it.” I didn’t want to talk about my cousin’s business as much as possible. “Ok, how was your day?” He changed the subject to a more casual one. “Had a lot of paperworks, that’s why it took me till 9pm. You?” “Went to visit some sites. Construction sites. Everything’s well.” I nodded at his answer and silence enveloped us. We got to the sushi restaurant. It was my first time there. He got out first and went to my side. He opened the door for me and offered his arm for assistance. I held his arm and went down while holding the jacket. He took the jacket from me and closed the car door. He took the jacket with him to the restaurant. He opened the door for me and I said thanks. He inky nodded and smiled at me. We sat down on a two-seater table. He held the chair for me to sit down then handed me his jacket. I thanked him again and he said welcome. The sushi restaurant was not so crowded probably because it was a little late for dinner. A waitress approached us and handed us a menu. She filled our glasses with table and left. She said she’d be back to get our orders. I opened the menu and all of them looks delicious. I asked Sebastian if he have a favorite and he told me that salmon was his favorite. The waitress returned and took our orders. We ordered 5 different kinds of sushi including the salmon and tempura. She left with our orders and there was silenced on our table. I looked around us and there seem to be a couple near us. Sebastian coughed and I saw him reached for his cup and drank some water. We didn’t talked much while waiting for our food. When the sushi was served, he told me that Sebastian drove me home after our dinner. Before I went out of his car, he asked for my number. I gave it to him without thinking much and thanked him for driving me home. I got in my condo and sat down on the sofa. I rewind the night and thought what just happened. My phone dinged and I saw that there was a message from an unknown number. I opened the message, and it was a short message saying, [Hi, its me Sebastian.] [It was nice having dinner with you. Let’s do it again sometime.] I messed my hair and shook my head. My heart just made a flip.
