Maybe It Was

Chapter 7

The designs for Sebastian’s birthday was passed to the fabrics team. They will try to match the design to the fabric and would do their best to match it. After preparing the fabrics, the tailor team would patch it up together.

I supervised the whole process to ensure that the clothes were done well. As the birthday party drew closer, the clothes were being completed. One week before the party, the clothes were completed.

I asked Selena what to do with them, either she picks it up or we deliver it. She chose to have it delivered personally as there might be some alterations needed. I agreed to her and went to their family’s house together with Cynthia.

We were greeted by a housemaid when we arrived and was guided to the living room. There was a cloth stand prepared there so Cynthia remove the cover from the clothes and hanged it on the stand. The maid left to call for her mistress.

We were setting up the clothes when Mrs.Lopez, Selena and Sebastian’s mother, came in to the living room. She greeted us warmly and invited me to sit on the 3-person sofa. Cynthia sat on a one-seater. We were sitting and having small talks. She told the maid to prepare some refreshments

A while later, the rest of the family arrived. Sebastian walked in last bowing his head. He sat farther from me. Selena was carrying her child and was introducing me. The baby was so cute that it distracted me from Sebastian.

The fitting began with Selena. She said she was very excited for the dress ant first for the fitting. The design was off-shoulder with floor length and a slit up until the knees only. I made it that way so she could more freely. For their mother’s dress, it was also floor length with no slit but I added more volume to it. So every time she walks it would sway.

Sebastian’s suit have two buttons and the buttons were put slightly to the right as for their father’s it was on the middle. All the clothes looks good on them and fitted right. There weren’t alterations so it will be kept in their house and they will be the one to prepare it for the birthday party.

After fitting, we had afternoon tea in a room that was apparently made for having tea. Mrs.Lopez likes tea and they usually have tea as a family. She motioned her hands to one of the maids to come closer and whispered something and the maid left for a while. When she returned, she was holding a small envelope and then gave it to her mistress. Mrs. Lopez took it and slide it to me on the table.

“Here’s the invitation for the party, I hope you can come.” She squeezed my hands after saying that. I heard Sebastian coughing from drinking his tea. Might have went in the wrong pipe.

I stared at the invitation and then looked at Mrs.Lopez. I was thinking if it was alright for me attend it. Sebastian and I didn’t have the same relationship as I have with Selena. I looked at Sebastian and I saw him wiping his chin from the spilled tea. I returned my gaze to their mother before I could meet his gaze.

I nodded and smiled to the lady of the house. She smiled as well and let go of my hand. She took her cup and raise it towards me. I took my cup as well and lightly clinked it to hers then took a sip. The conversation went on to another topic.

My gaze couldn’t help but be drawn to Sebastian. I was wondering if he would mind me going to his birthday party.

Sebastian’s POV

I’m f****d.

Thats what was going through my mind during the afternoon tea we had after the fitting. My mother find out about my crush on Agatha and is very adamant on playing cupid.

She found out when my sister insisted to have the fitting in our house. According to her, it would be the best time to meet their future daughter-in-law.

‘What future daughter-in-law? She doesn’t even likes me.’

One thing that also making my head hurt, was the way I acted the last time we met in her office. Her ex-boyfriend was in the office as well. Knowing that it was Lucas, it actually made me relieved that she was not together with him anymore. That guy was known to be a womanizer in our circle.

I went to her office that day because I heard she wanted me to see the design. It was also an excuse for me to see her again. Even though the conference ended up late the day before, I still drove home anyways so I could go to her office the next day.

I was still beating myself for winking to her that day. I didn’t want to come out as someone flirty. I just couldn’t help but wink because I was feeling good at a discovery. Since Lucas was trying to win her back, that would mean that she was not in a relationship. I thought to myself maybe I also have a chance.

After the afternoon tea, Agatha excused herself to head back to the office. My sister elbowed me and raised her brows. I stared at her to asked what was up. Feeling frustrated, she widened her eyes at me and said, “My brother would walk you out, Agatha.”

This time it was my turned to widened my eyes. ‘What now?’

I looked at Agatha and she seem perplexed as well.

“There’s no need for that. Cynthia and I will just see ourselves out.” Agatha nodded at her secretary and stood up.

I thought back to my reaction and it might’ve looked like I hated the idea from the way I was widening my eyes at my sister. I decided to redeemed myself.

I spat out a, “Let’s go.” Before she could say anything more, like refuse again, I stood up from my chair and walked out of the room.

When we got out of the house, her car was already parked in front. She went to the driver’s door and opened it.

“I’ll see you at the party.” I said to her as she went in. I saw her pause for a second and sat down. She started the car and drove away. I stood there and watched their car go farther and farther.
