I stared at the card for a while and turned to Cynthia.
“Who handed you these flowers?”
She looked at me then the flowers.
“It was delivered before the show.”
The whole night was spent socializing with the guests and looking around to look for the person who sent the flowers. There was only one person I could think of who would send that.
Lucas, my ex-boyfriend whom I dated back in college. Unlike other breakups, ours was considered good. It was a mutual agreement between us. We realized that being in a relationship wasn’t something we could handle at the moment.
The night was over and I didn’t see his silhouette nor a single strand of hair from him. I must be mistaken or he just really arranged for it to be delivered and didn’t come to the actual showcase.
I went home feeling very drained by the day. I was literally crawling inside my condo. I was even torn between taking a shower and not. In the end, I decided to take a shower since that would probably helped me relieve some of the exhaustion.
I sat on the bed and felt very accomplished with how the day turned out. The guests reactions to the showcase was good and I thought I could expect some good results this next few days.
I took my phone from my handbag and checked my social medias to see if there was any article regarding the showcase. There were a lot of posts from the celebrities and influencers I invited. Some of the models also posted on their social medias and was tagging me on it. I liked all the posts that I was tagged and lied down the bed. I fell asleep while scrolling through like that.
The next day, I woke up to the call ringtone of my phone. I didn’t even get to check the caller ID and just answered it.
“Hello?”
“Ma’am, the local news has written an article about the showcase yesterday.”
I immediately got up after hearing that. I looked at my phone and that caller ID was being displayed. It was Cynthia and it was 7 in the morning.
I put the phone back to my ear. “Send me the link.” I told her and hung up the phone. A few seconds later, I received a message with a link. I clicked on it and it was redirected to the local news website.
‘Starting the year with a bang, Designer Agatha Flores just held a showcase for her new Spring/Summer Collection. The show was filled with star-studded guests and is currently the talk of the town. Click here to see some of the guests present in the showcase’
I scrolled through the article and it was full of praises for the showcase. I smiled to myself and got from the bed. I got ready for the day ‘cause I feel like it would be another busy day.
I got to the office and I was greeted by Cynthia with an iced latte. I took it from her and signaled her to report me the current situation. The office looked quite hectic. A lot of people are walking here and there.
“A lot of orders are coming in right now.”
We got to my office and I sat down on my swivel chair. I drank some latte and looked at her. I smiled at her and told her it was a nice day. I dismissed her and started working on my part.
Indeed, there were a lot of orders coming in. It would only be a matter of time before we announce that the clothes were sold out. By noon, we posted it.
There was so much work to do that most of my employees didn’t have time to step ot to eat. As a nice boss, I decided to just order food for them. By five in the afternoon, everything was mostly settled. The other things would be settled the next day, like delivering the clothes.
I got off work at 7pm and my stomach was already rumbling. It was probably complaining for the lack of food. At lunch, I didn’t get to eat lunch. I was even the person who ordered the food and yet I didn’t even get to eat even a spoonful. I sighed and decided to go to a nearby restaurant. There was an Italian restaurant called ‘Casa Azzurra’ and I really liked their cream pasta.
I stepped out of the building and there was a black converter parked outside. The driver’s door opened and a man came out, Lucas. I stopped walking and looked at him. He still looked the same from my memories. His style changed though. Probably to suit his profession. He was wearing a polo shirt rolled up to his elbows and a slack.
He walked closer to me.
“I was around the area and saw that the lights in your office was still on.”
I just stood there staring. I couldn’t found the right words to say. It has been years since we last talked. I think I forgot how to talk to him anymore. I nodded my head in response to what he said.
He tilted his head and stared at me.
“Can we have dinner together?” He asked.
I was surprised to hear him asked that. ‘Why would he suddenly asked for dinner?’ My stomach grumbled again at the mention of dinner. I agreed to the dinner and. We walked to his car. He opened the door for me and to his seat. The drive to the restaurant was spend in silence. He didn’t say anything and I wasn’t sure what to talk about either.
We got to the restaurant and it was the restaurant I was thinking of earlier. The waiter approached us and asked if we have other companies. Lucas answered no and we were guided to a table for two. After sitting down, the waiter gave us a menu.
“What should we get?” He asked.
I flipped through the menu but in the end still chose the cream pasta. He chose beef steak. We told the waiter our orders and the waiter left. A few moments later, he came back to fill our glasses with water then left right back.
“I know it must be sudden, this dinner. But I can’t take it anymore.”
I looked at him after he said those words. ‘What was he trying to say? What can’t he take anymore exactly?!’
