ZOE’S POV I stayed very still, my body humming in anticipation as I tried to focus on the sounds around me. The air smelled faintly of his cologne—dark, musky, with a bit of something spicy that wrapped around me like a warning of what was to come. The bed dipped beside me as he got up and then the floorboards creaked. I heard the sound of a drawer being opened, a faint metallic sound of something being set down. My pulse throbbed beneath the blindfold as I strained to catch the smallest sound in the silence pressing around me that made me ache to hear something, anything from him.
