Nothing is more beautiful than home, as the old folks used to say, and New York City has been my home since my mother and I moved here from Texas when I was eight years old. The splendor of Time Square in December never gets old. My breath is taken away by anything and everything about New York—the snow, the light show, the vibe. Never in my life can I even for a moment consider moving anyplace other than New York.
I walk alone on the sidewalk, acting normal like other New Yorkers, but then my heart, my feelings, and my brain start to spark a light of love when I see a girl, a white-haired girly girl with two other girls walking behind her.
She is stunningly gorgeous, resembling a princess from a fairy tale. Her appearance—particularly her look, face, and attire-makes her much more stunning than she already is.
It is extremely difficult for me to forget and erase the face of that adorable, white-haired girl from my thoughts after I just saw her on the other side of the road, and for a very long time, I never believed it when other people said they fell in love with one another at first sight, but now I do.
Imagine if she went to the same school as I do. That would be the best gift I ever wished to have in my entire life. Santa please do your magic and make it happen.
I pull my headphones off and put them back into my sidebag before I head into another local convenience store located near 7th Avenue Street. The store has everything I need, from school stuff to food and chocolate bars. It has everything. When I enter the store, it makes me feel like I have just entered a wonderland.
I spent nearly an hour and a half just picking up all my school stuff and foods to store in the fridge.
When putting all the stuff at the checkout, my jaw drops wide open. It said all my appliances and stuff cost two hundred and fifty dollars (250USD). My mom only gave me three hundred dollars to spend for a whole month, but I spent two hundred fifty on the first day. The majority of people will believe that fifty dollars will still be sufficient to cover all of your expenses for a month, but in New York, especially if you also attend one of the most expensive universities in the nation, fifty dollars is obviously insufficient.
I know it is expensive but all the stuff I picked are all needed for school and I don't want to be that student who doesn't bring all their needed material to class.
After checking out, it took two big pieces of plastic bag to carry all my stuff, and clearly, I can not carry that and walk five miles back to the train station. If I call a taxi, it will cost me approximately ten more dollars and I only have fifty in my wallet left to spend for this entire month. Clearly, walking back to the station is my only option now. As I nearly got back to the train station, a car honked at me from behind.
"Hey, need a ride." A woman's voice called for me from behind. At first, I thought it was a taxi so I yell back" No thank you, I don't need a Taxi."
"Actually I am not a Taxi." the mysterious person shouts back to me causing me to come to a full stop.
"And who are you?" I stopped and turn back and, to my surprise, the girl that sat in the passenger seat was the same white hair, beautiful like a princess girl that I had just had a crush on half an hour ago.
"I am your fellow schoolmate from Steerling. You study at Steerling, right? I think I saw you yesterday at the front desk, asking Mrs. Peddleston for your room card?" said the brunette girl who was the driver, and I presume she is also my crush's friend.
And back to the conversation, I nod, 'cause there is nothing more I can do while my hand is full with all the stuff that I just bought.
"You can put your stuff in the trunk and come ride with us back to the Campus. I mean we don't mind you hoping for a ride with us back, right Tiana?"She said, eyeing back at her right,
"Tiana, what a cute name for a cute girl like her. Mom, I think I just found your future daughter-in-law," I think inside my head. Am I losing my mind? Maybe I do, but I'm not crazy enough to say it out loud, of course.
"Hey, Handsome stranger? You heard what I just said?" The girl in the driver's seat asks again.
"Are you sure about that?" I ask. God, my heart is racing like crazy inside of me right now. Am I about to ride back to campus for twenty minutes next to my crush? and I sincerely hope that this is genuine and not a dream.
"Yeah, I am really sure, and Tiana is also a hundred percent sure, and I don't really mind letting my fellow schoolmate ride with me back to school, you know." She insisted again, but this time Tiana looks straight into my eyes with her beautiful crystal blue eyes. The eyes that I can't seem to resist.
"Okay, sure let go then". I put all my stuff in the car trunk, and headed straight to the back seat.
"So what Major are you in?" Kristine asks.
Tiana, I try not to look at her face and use the New York view as my eyes distraction when I reply back to Krisitne. “English literature, you?"
"I'm majoring in Biochemistry and... also English Litterature too. I think we will see each other a lot more than when class starts." She said and smiles.
"Hope so" I'm still trying not to look at Tiana's face, too shy to do it.
"I'm Kristine, by the way". Her friend offers her right hand while keeping her left on the steering wheel.
"I'm Alex, nice to meet you, Kristine." I shake her hand back, but still, make an awkward behavior waiting for Kristine to introduce me to Tiana.
"Oh--right, I forgot, Alex, this is my roommate, Tiana. She is a shy one, so don't mind her if she ignores you in public the next time you meet each other," Kristine replies, tagging along with it is a laugh.
"So...Who's your roommate? Maybe I know him? This is a small school, you know?" Kristine asked again, but I don't much care what Kristine ask me, all I care about right now is Tiana. I see her eyes, I know she tries so hard not to look back at me, and I don't blame her, I am kind of hot too.
Who am I kidding? Alex wakes up and stops day dreaming thinking you are as hot as Chris Evans.
"His name is Karlitos, you know him?" I reply, trying to hold my composure and not freak out.
"Yeah, I know that guys. You guys stay in room c16 right?" She said,
"Yeah, you know our room number, I assume you must be close to him," I reply, and in my heart, I pray that she is one Karl's friends, so I might have a chance to get to know Tiana a lot more.
"Yeah--- you can say that we both came to Steerling last year, and you're a freshman, right?"
"Yeah." I still try not to look at Tiana's face even though she is now looking directly through the mirror a few times by now.
"You heard about his last roommate, right?"
"Yeah, yeah--- I hope it never happens to me."
"Yeah, poor guys, should never throw that glass of wine at Harry," she said.
"From what I heard, Harry was being a d**k at Karl first. I think a glass of wine at his face was not enough to justify his action," I responded with fury in my voice. Still pissed at Harry, that douchbag is really a b***h like most people said.
"Wow, the first time I saw you, I didn't think you had that energy inside you. I love that kind of energy, we should hang out together more," Kristine adds, and Tiana smirks. I know she likes me, I hope,
"Yeah we should--- now can you please drive faster, I need to get back to my room." I urge Kristine to hurry the hell up, because my feeling is going to explode soon, and I can't hold them back any longer, and I also have an interview to go to too.
"Okay--- it's just a block now," she said back, Kristine is so weird, and Tiana is so cute and shy like I am, most of the time, and I kind of like the two a lot right now.
