Someday, all food would be transported by dirigible, direct from the few green farms that remained on the British Isles to the fine folk who lived in the City Above, and on that day those in the City Below would be without recourse indeed. Every member of the Spider’s smuggling organization could see the writing on the wall.
Almost literally. The writing might be metaphorical, but the Wall that enclosed the Spitalfields ghetto was very real indeed.
