They reached the hotel without an instant to spare. Katarina changed clothing and persona, rushed off to the theater, rehearsed, performed, collected accolades on her performance and sympathies on the burglary, and returned to the hotel.
She had slept not at all the night before, and very little the two nights before that. When she finally reached her bedchamber, she had no energy to spare for philosophical contemplations while brushing her hair. She did not even bother braiding it before collapsing into bed.
This left her with plenty of opportunity to think the following morning, as she went through the irritating lengthy process of brushing out the snarled birds-nest that had resulted from her laziness. At least the sleep had cleared h
