FRUSTRATION

830 Words
"It's okay dear." I consoled her and made her lay on my lap. Throughout the night, I had to lie with Evelyn to make sure she was comforted. When she woke up in the morning, she was looking so despondent. I had fried an egg for her to eat with bread and tea, but she rejected it. "I am not hungry mum." She said in despair. "Evelyn dear, you ought to eat, since you didn't eat last night to avoid having stomach upset." I said trying my best to comfort my daughter. "I am not hungry mum! I don't want to eat, I just want to die." This time around, Evelyn broke down into tears and I kept on comforting her. "You shall not die dear, you still have so much to fulfill here on earth, so you ain't dieing now". "mum was it my fault that I was born? Why do all these misfortune have to befall me? No dad, no sibling, no friend, even my own best friend had to betray me, hatred everywhere. Mum have I wronged the world?" "Dear you have me, you have God and besides, you've wronged nobody." This time, tears were already dripping from my eyes, but I just had to control myself and be strong for both of us. "I must take my revenge, even to the last drop of my blood." She mumbled. "To err is human, to forgive is divine" "Not on this mum, I was suspended from continuing my exams with my fellow students and shamefully accused of what I'm not guilty of and you said I should forgive?" Evelyn blurted with a very high tone, almost standing up as if Victory is right before her and she's gonna strangle her immediately. "No mum, I can't, I won't, never!" "Remember the words of Christ in Matthew 6:15? But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, your heavenly father will not forgive you there trespasses too". "I don't care mum, where was he when I was accused falsefully, why didn't he defend me? Why didn't he reveal to our principal that all those accusations were false?" "my dear, he might not have said anything, but rest assured, he's right beside you, and could feel all your pains. I promise you, he might have allowed you to pass through all these, just so as to make you strong." Evelyn was silent, I couldn't tell what was going on in her mind, I wish I had the power to prevent all those ugly experiences. I know my daughter very well, she took after me, and she hardly says thing without meaning it or accommplishing it. "Talk to me dear." I tried engaging her so as to relieve her of the anger in her. "I want to be left alone mum." "Alright, what about your food then?" "I will eat when I'm hungry." I was so concerned and sorry for my daughter's feeling. Growing up with just me around her, she couldn't have taste of what it means to have a complete family. Most of the times, after school Evelyn would come back home sad and emotionally traumatised. She would censure how her classmates were always discussing their families and she wouldn't have anything to say, and even when she dared to talk, they would warn her sternly not to involve in such discussions because she doesn't have a family. I regretted ever having a relationship with Kingsley, which led to my conception of Evelyn. Tears flowed down my face as I walked down memory lane. Not too long, the ringing tone of my phone interrupted my thought, it was my boss calling. "Jesus!" I shouted like someone that was woken from a nightmare. It was already 9:00 a.m. and just then, I remembered it was Wednesday morning and I was supposed to read the minute of the previous meeting for the meeting that would be held that morning. "I'm late to the meeting, oh my God! I'm late to work!" I stood up and for my stuff ready to leave for the office. "Evelyn, I'm off to work, please don't do anything foolish before I return okay? She nodded affirmatively and immediately, I rushed out to take a cab. "Thank God the rush hour has gone down, so I'll have to arrive a bit earlier." I muttered. * * * * * When I came back after work in the evening, I was flabbergasted to notice that Evelyn had never got up from her bed, though she had eaten the food I prepared her in the morning. Welcome, Evelyn muttered while I replied tiredly and went to the bathroom to take a shower. I returned to her room to keep her company and tell her stories of my own life. "Evelyn" I called out. "Yes mum" "Sit up, I'd like to share my story with you, I'm sure it'll interest you, and you'll also learn some lessons from it." "okay mum, I'm all ears."
