Her tears spilled out of her with more force, blackened by her mascara. “Whatever,” Cam surrendered. “It doesn’t matter now. The bastard is dead and, as you can see, I finally found a real good stable home for myself.” “I know you don’t want to hear it now,” she sniffed, “but I’m asking you to please think about staying with me when you get out, Cam. Until you’re up on your feet again. Just tell me you’ll think about it.” Cam peered across the table at this woman he loathed more than his father. “I’ll think about it,” he mumbled. “That blow wasn’t mine, by the way,” he added, unexpectedly. “Pardon?” Suzy asked, not being familiar with his terminology. “The cocaine I was busted for. It wasn’t mine.” “Then whose was it?” she asked. “This girl in the last home I was in. She set me up.”
