I rolled my window down as I parked in front of the library. “Nyla come here!” I yelled as I waved my hand. She gave me a look of confusion before she ran into the car. “Wassup mom?” She stated she looked over at me. “I’m sorry for being a terrible mother to you growing, I’m sorry for not being there, I’m sorry you had to grow up fast. I’m sorry for putting you in this f****d situation, but I promise you we’ll get out of this situation.” I said with tears in my eyes. She looked over at me and gave me sad smile, “I really want to forgive you but it’s gonna be extremely hard.” “It’s fine, I understand.” I said as I parked in a hotel. “How did you find?” She asked as I put the car in park. “I was just driving around.” I honestly stated, she nodded her letting she understand. “We’re gonna stay here for a week, and don’t worry about clothes. I have some for you.” I mumbled as I got out of the car. We walked into the hotel and checked in. “This a nice ass hotel.” Nyla commented as she looked around. “Watch yo mouth Nyla.” I said sternly. She raised her hands in defense and backed up, “My bad ma.” “Mhm.” I muttered as I took the key from the clerk. “Thank you ma’am.” Nyla said before she jogged to the elevator. We got in and ascended into the 3rd floor. We got off and began looking for our hotel room. “Ma I found it.” Nyla nudged to the last hotel door. I gave her a pat on the shoulder and opened the door. “We got a nice room.” She said looking amazed. “Alright let’s get— why yo phone keep going off hun?”  I cut myself off. She took a deep breath before her lips trembled, “Keshawn keeps calling my phone and texting it. He’s saying if you don’t come back with me imma kill you. He’s saying you gotta watch ya back mom.” She stopped to take breather and looked back at her phone again, “if he find out we’re together, he’s gonna kill you in front of me.” I felt my heartbreak but I have to be strong for the both of us, “Don’t worry Nyla, mommy I got you.” I brought her in for a hug and we stayed like that for a while. “Let’s watch movies and talk.” I said releasing her from the hug. ___________________________________________ Nyla Iman POV @7:23 p.m. “Hey mom, can I ask you a question?” I said as I bit into an Oreo. “Yeah of course.” She said taking her attention away from the movie we’re watching. “Why were you so mean to me growing?” I asked watching her tense up. “Your dad left me because of your skin color. He’s a very dark skin man and I’m obviously I’m light skin. He resented you for having his skin color. He didn’t want no black baby so he left. And I resented you for that, I couldn’t cope with the fact he left me so I did drugs.” She said. I bit the inside of my cheek to hold from saying something stupid, “Did you know that he’s colorist when you started dating him?” I asked she hesitantly nodded her head. “Why’d you date him then?” I asked. “I thought he was different and we weren’t expecting you to come out so dark!” She blurted out. “Do you know where my dad is at now?” I questioned, I wanna talk to this man. “I do.” She said with sad smile, “You want his contact information don’t you?”  I nodded my head yes, I just want some closure. She wrote something down on a paper before she passed it to me. It had his name Marcus Iman, address 116  Dairy Rd,  phone number 550-111-2222, and email marcusiman01@gmail.com “Ma why you got his last name?” I asked curiously. “Long ass process for the court to remove his last name, and I have faith that he’ll come back to me.” She said making cringe, dumb ass b***h. “When’s the last time y’all spoken?” I questioned. “Since the day he left us.” She answered making me shake my head in disgust. “Why’d you marry Keshawn?” I really have to know this. “Money and drugs.” She answered making me frown. “Did you know he was gonna take advantage of me? Is that why you made me wear that lingerie?” I could feel the tears begging to come out. “I did but I didn’t wanna have s*x with so I offered you up.” She replied making me shake my head. I hopped off the bed and rushed out the door, but to my surprise Keshawn was standing in front of me with a smirk on his face. Aw s**t.
