The annual Luna festival
Everywhere was bustling with different activities. It was that time of the year; the annual Luna festival.
It was a night where we wolves come out to celebrate, worship and perform a sacred sacrifice to the moon goddess.
When I was a child, it was my favorite holiday. There was always excess of food and drinks, we played games and watch an acted theater drama of how the moon goddess, Selene, created us and gave us the mate bond that we now cherish till date. There was also a contest each year among warriors, to determine the strongest of all and the person will hold that title till he can be overthrown. There was a male and female warrior contest, but as the recent female warrior is heavily pregnant she won’t be able to compete, so the female contest was postponed.
To my surprise Levi’s older brother Simon was the one with the strongest warrior title; he had been undefeated for three years now. Levi envied him in a junior brother kind of way, but I knew in his heart he was proud of his brother but he’ll never say it out loud.
This was also the time of the year most teenagers around the age of sixteen looked forward to; because after the festival, their shifting process was going to start. Some say that was the sign that the moon goddess has accepted the sacrifice but I call bullshit.
For me I wasn’t excited, more angry than happy, I was grateful because this was Freda’s first festival but I was angry because the moon goddess didn’t deserve my worship after everything she’d done to me and my family, after taking my Rachel away; the only thing she deserved was s**t.
I was currently in the pack gym along with the guys: Luther and Peg had decided to sign up for the contest; so Levi and I joined them in for training.
The contest was divided into two the first half; was the race part where all contestants would race to the finish line and only the first four contestants would move to the second half which was; the hand to hand combat round, in that round no one was to shift, if they did so, they would be disqualified and who ever won would move to the finally round which was a combat against the undefeated; that part was also divided into two, the hand combat and the combat in wolf form. I don’t know how they’ll expect them to beat him after going through all those challenges, they were breaks in between challenges but they weren’t sufficient.
I laughed at Luther who groaned from his position under Levi, they were in a hand to hand combat on the mat and Luther was losing badly.
“I don’t know why you bothered to sign up for the contest, my brother is going to break your ass, that is if you even passed the first round…” Levi taunted Luther.
“Lana coerced me into it.” Luther grunted as he struggled to break through Levi’s strong hold.
I laughed as I sensed the underlining meaning to it.
Lana was Luther’s mate, and let’s say she’s a very feisty woman compared to Luther’s calm and reserved nature.
Luther eventually surrendered, standing from the mat with a frown on his face.
Levi mocked him with a pat on his back which made him release a warning growl.
“Lana’s going to be the death of you, my brother. She’s eat you out when you eventually fail the first round.” Levi said and Luther silently agreed with a small smile on his face.
She’ll definitely eat him out.
My heart aches as I remember Rachel; Lana sometimes reminded me of her, they would’ve been friends if she were still alive.
Peg and I stepped on the mat, he smirked smugly. Unlike Luther, Peg was more arrogant and pompous. He was the kind of guy, who was definitely a jerk in high school. He was one of the many new additions to the pack along with Luther, they both came from the same pack; ‘ The Silver Blood pack’.
Vance was from ‘ Desert wolf tribe’ which was a very small pack, they formally lived close to the deserts of North America. They were a very religious group before they were overthrown, only about four families sacrificed. Vance lost his brother who was the Alpha of the pack. He wasn’t in the gym with us now, but he was the assigned referee of the contest.
Peg made the first move by aiming for my face which I saw as a very bold first move. I smirked as I dodged the blow, making him stumble into the air, Levi whistle at me encouragingly, getting Peg agitated.
Maybe he thought I was a weakling because of the state at which I came into the pack; I chuckled as I remembered the memory, before I met Rachel, I was pushed by jealousy and envy for Raymond. Alpha Kane’s words got to me when he said I was a lowlife and a disappointment but I knew I was way better so I signed up for a boxing class with an old man named Jimmy. He was a retired boxer and a very good one, he trained me very hard, and today I was an expert at hand to hand combat, but Peg didn’t know that.
I smirked, maybe it was time to show him. I moved in faster than usual adding my wolf speed a little and made the same move he made but with more agility and skills. His eyes widened with shock as he saw my fist already in his face, before he could dodge it; it landed sharply on his jaw and a resounding crack echoed around the gym followed by a loud thud of Peg body meeting the ground.
My once confident stance faltered, as my ears met deafening silence. I know he wasn’t dead, I dropped to my kneels to check up on him.
Shit.
I didn’t expect my punch to be that heavy.
A large bruise sat on his jaw as he released a low grunt making me sigh in relieve.
“s**t! I underestimated you skinny.” Peg groggily said as he sat up with a snarl on his face.
“Damn right, you did.” Levi followed up, patting me on my back.
“That was one hell of a right hook.” He praised making me chuckle.
“Yeah.” I said briefly before walking away from the scene.
Peg’s Jaw was healed already, I shook my head. He probably picked me over Levi thinking I was a weakling, he better reconsider the thought now.
I quickly had my bathe in the locker room before i ventured out to see my sweetheart.
Freda was already getting so big, she’s six months old. She now calls me paw-paw. I don’t think it’s intentional but I loved it, I was grateful I could record it on camera when she first said it.
I maneuvered my way through the crowded pack house and towards the children section which was on the first floor.
My steps slow down as I heard a child crying not too far from where I stood. I walked further up the stairs and saw a small pup seated on one of the stairs, his face stained with tears as he held his foot in his arms.
He looked to be around two to three years old. My heart clenched as I squatted to his height.
“Hello, little man. Where’s your mummy? Why are you crying?” I said softly making his tears seize.
“Mama said I should wait but I w-weally w-wanted the co-okies, so I came down the stair-rs and then I h-hwurt my fwoot.” He said and I held in my smile at his explanation. Someone was being a bad boy.
“Oh no, that must hurt a lot, come now. Let’s take you to the clinic- you’re a very strong boy.” I encourage making him grin an open teeth grin at me.
I carefully picked him up and together we walked down the stairs. Everyone was too busy to even notice the pup and I.
He snuggled into my chest, only whimpering a little when I try to maneuver between the the busy people.
Just as I was about to walk out of the pack house, a voice I’ve grown to know so well sounded from behind me but it wasn’t the voice that shuck me, it was the words;
“What are you doing with my son?” Beta Raymond’s voice boomed, making everyone stop their movement and follow his line of sight.
