Chapter 5

Thank you Fuck! The little boy in my arms shrunked further into my arms at the sound of his father’s voice. The silence was deafening as everyone watched the unfolding drama. Since I got back, Raymond hasn’t been the nicest. He was one of the many reasons I over trained, he was in charge of overseeing any recent pack members and visitors. My first week wasn’t the best. He made me almost slightly regret coming back but half way through it I decided I wasn’t a p***y, so I wasn’t going to back out and when he saw my determination he backed off. The little man in my arms hid his face in my chest as I turned around to confront his father. I knew this looked bad on my part, but I had no idea he was his pup and even if I knew he was his pup I still would’ve helped the little thing. Without no ounce of regret I answered his question; “He was hurt, found him on the stairs. He hurt his foot trying to go down the stairs.” Raymond’s protective stance relaxed as he gave me a polite smile. Everyone around seeing as there was no juicy argument, they turned back to their assigned works. Raymond held out his arms to receive his son but the pup had a mind of his own. The little thing held onto me tighter, making me smile a little. Raymond didn’t appreciate it and frowned at his son. “Ivan…come on now. We have to go treat your foot.” He said softly. “No. I k-know you’re still a-angry at me and ma ma.” Ivan whispered into my chest. Raymond didn’t seem too happy about his son’s confession, he looked more embarrassed than angry. I gave him a calm smile. “Let’s just go together to the clinic, I don’t mind carrying him there.” I suggested. It was eventually what I planned to do before he interrupted us. He gave me a grateful smile before leading the way. The doctor attended to Ivan, who refused to leave my arms. He grinned at me when the doctor finished wrapping his ankle. Thankful it was just a sprain and will heal in a day or two. Raymond was by the corner watching Ivan and I in confusion and anger. “Mr. You smell weally good- Ivan said as he dramatically sniffed me and I chuckled in return. “Oh really. What do I smell like?” I jokingly asked him. “ Hmmm… I-I don’t know. But you smell better than co-okies and I weally like co-okies.” His nose scrunched probably still thinking of what I smell like. I laughed at his explanation. I probably smelt like baby milk and Freda. “Ivan… sweetheart!” Lucy panicked as she rushed into the clinic room. She came to an halt, when she saw Ivan sitting on my lap while still dramatically sniffing me. Raymond spoke first, “He found him on the stairs, sprained his ankle- why weren’t you with him?” “I left him with Zoey, I had some important things to attend to.” She mumbled out, the air thickening with the smell of her fear. I tried as much to ignore their weird interaction and focus on Ivan, who was now practically digging into my side while trying to hide from his mother prying eyes. “Ivan, come here.” She approached us. Ivan gave up trying to hide and went into her open arms. Raymond eyes followed our awkward exchange like a spy. I gave Ivan one last smile and ruffled his head before leaving the reunited family in the hospital room. Before I left the room Lucy whispered a small thank you to me and I gave her a nod not wanting to stay too long, since I still had to go see my daughter. “Liam.” “Eve?” I asked the young woman in a nurse scrubs. Eve was a very good friend of Thalia back when they were in little pups. She blushed red before giving me a coy smile in return. “Hi! I heard you’re back in town. I haven’t had time to come say hi.” She said with a timid smile. “It’s okay. How are you?” I ask her. “I’m fine. It’s nice to have you back in the pack. Thalia would’ve been so happy to see you.” She gave a sympathetic smile but her words weren’t as sympathetic, it held a ting of spite and I wandered why? I moved closer to her and lowered my voice before I spoke. “Where is she? Thalia? What happened to her? Nobody is talking about it and I know you know what happened. Please. I really need to know where she is?” She shook her head with a frown on her face before answering me, “I can’t tell you where she is, but I know she’s okay and she’s happier now, wherever she is.” She said before giving a curt smile and dashing away. I eyed her retreating figure with a glare. Now I was more worried for my sister, in my heart I knew she wasn’t dead but she was no where to be found. If she found her mate, why can’t they just say it… ‘oh, your sister is okay, she found her mate.’ Not ‘she okay and she’s happy.’ What is that supposed to mean? It sounded like they wanted to reassure themselves, that she was okay. Thalia was the only one I had since our parents died during a rogue invasion when Thalia and I were still very young and that was how we started living in the pack orphanage homes, most orphans became omegas; so that they have little food to sustain themselves. The orphan system of then wasn’t developed and it was corrupt; I remembered how some of the orphan females had to go as far as selling their bodies to some of the top wolves. It was a secret only few know; then I would alway assume that Alpha Kane never knew but seeing how evil the man really was, I know he had in on it. We the male orphan wolves didn’t have it as bad as the females; we were allowed to train and we could also pick shifts as border patrol guards. They didn’t pay us money but at the end of every shift we were allowed to go back to the pack house and eat a full meal. Sometimes we took back for the other orphans at the orphanage. It was how I knew Simon and Levi, we grew up in the orphanage together. I was glad the system was more developed now, according to Levi; Alpha Xander made sure all the names that had in on the minor prostitution ring were dealt with respectively. I hated myself for leaving Thalia alone at that godforsaken home. Now I thought about it, that was very selfish of me. Did she also have to sell her body for food or money? I shook my head and released a pained growl at the obscene thought. Few minutes later, I once again walked up the stairs of the pack house, but just as I reached the top, her scent surrounded me before I heard her voice. I looked down at Lucy who was at the bottom of the stairs with a sleeping Ivan in her arms.
