Chapter 17

***Becca***

I called my manager from work and told her I had a family matter that needed my urgent attention I would need to take additional time off. He immediately agreed and put in my leave request. I would have to go in and work for a 6 shifts in order to use my PTO for the next 4-6 weeks. So he could arrange coverage. I reluctantly agree and hang up.

I mind-link Sarah and tell her I need her. I turn around and she walks into the living room. And sits next to me. She already knew what I was going to ask but I said it aloud anyway, “I need to go to the city and work for a week. I’m going to drain my PTO and list the house. I want Bell and I to disappear so we can stay in the pack. I want to be with Will.” Sara just listened until I finished a smile appears on her lips, she reached over and held my right hand in her left, and wiped the tears from my eyes with her right. I hugged my best friend and sister-in-law and every emotion I had held in for so long came pouring out of me. “You know, you should let Will in on your plans, and you should make these plans together?” Sarah said. I looked at her in the eyes and and said, “ I think it’s time for he, Bell and I to have our first family meeting. “Bo and I will do whatever we need to, but you know that,” Sarah winks at me and adds, “I’ll pack a picnic lunch”. I smile, “yeah, at the treehouse.”

***Bell***

I was playing with Millie when my mind had a picture of momma and me and Will. We were at the lake and very happy. There were a bunch of people with us too. Momma interrupted I heard her say, “Bell, let’s go for a walk. Momma wants to show you her most favorite spot.” I jumped up from the floor and Millie said, “nope, can not come with this time but have fun at the treehouse”. We walked into the forest and momma showed me the ladder up the tree to the tree house. She followed me. When we got to the top momma was smiling so big! I couldn’t help but laugh. I could see the whole forest down to the beach from here. This is so cool! I asked momma, “how long are we going to stay here?” Momma looked at me and and said, “how about…forever” i was smiling so much my face hurt! “What do you think about you, Will, and I being a family here?” I answered her by letting her feel my excitement. “I think it’s great, but can we live at Will’s house and our new house for adventures, we don’t need our other house?” Momma had tears in her eyes but it’s because she’s happy. “Those are wonderful ideas but let’s surprise Will with them and a picnic!”

***Sarah***

I took the cheese, crackers, salami, prosciutto, nuts, grapes, sliced apples, and sparkling cider so they could celebrate. I quickly take it to my best friend and my niece. I smile and vanish from the tree house. I wouldn’t miss this for anything! I see Will approaching. He looks nervous and paces intermittently as he approaches he even walks away for 15 minutes and returns with Bo at his side. I look at the curiously and Bo must felt it. He filled me in and allowed me to eavesdrop on his talk with Will. He was nervous, he is worried Becca will leave. Bo comes to my side.

“Bec, I’m here” Will calls from the ground he realizes the tree house is a sacred place. Next we hear a Bell coming down the fireman’s pole. We let her see us from our hiding place. I wink at her and she winks back with a dazzling smile. She walks up to Will and says, “I have an idea my Will.” He kneels down and holds her hands. “What’s that my Bell?” I could see he projecting her calm energy to him. “I think mommy and I should have a slumber party at your house.” Will smiles halfheartedly. “I think that would be okay, but momma has the final say.” Bell turned and looked up at the treehouse. “Hey momma,can we have a slumber party at Will’s tonight?” Becca peeked over the side and said, “ only if we can have one tomorrow night, and the next night, and the night after that”. Will laughs and says, “with that amount of sleepovers you girls should just move in wi..” Becca cut him off. “Move where Will?” I heard Will sigh. “Will, are you suggesting Bell and I move in with you? We just finished the new lake house.” Will looked defeated. “Hey Will, I just don’t want the lake house to go to waste. How about we use it on the weekends and live in your house, well, forever”. Will didn’t say anything but turned an ran toward the tree house he climbed up the side to the top tier of the tree house and kissed Becca. Bell said, “does that mean yes Will?” He drops to the ground and scoops Bell up, “Yes MY Bell, that means yes!” Bo and I sneak away to give them privacy to be the family they were meant to be.

Later that evening after Bell was tucked into bed Will and Becca sat up in bed laying out their plan of action. Bell would stay here with Sarah and Bo. Jared and Will would go with Becca to get everything in order in the city. Will toll Becca not to sell her house but to rent it out as an air bnb so it wouldn’t seem like she was skipping town and just disappeared.

***Jared***

Becca was burning the candle at both ends and there was something off about her. She worked 12-20 hour days then came home and packed at night. It helped that the house would stay furnished. As I wondered around Becca’s house for the first time I noticed she had very few pictures of her family. Will was present everywhere it was as if he was always to be a part of her life. Will was very attentive to my daughter. She wasn’t one to be fussed over but that boy found a way. Made sure she had dinner when she got home and breakfast before she left. Midweek I heard someone at the door and in walks Sarah and in runs Bell to her Papa.

“Will, Bo needs you at home important pack stuff, he wants you home by dusk Dad,Bell, and I will stay here. We will be home Saturday.” Sarah explains. “Is everything on track at home?” Will asks, “sure is Will, let’s go see mommy!” Bell squeals in delight Will places her on his shoulders and does a lap around the house with Sarah and I so we can pick up where he had left off. Boxes were packed just needed to be stacked for loading. Otherwise, it’s all Sarah putting on those finishing touches for pictures for the air bnb advertisement.

**Will,***

I quickly shower and put on a pair of slacks with a black t-shirt. I buckled my belt and run my fingers through my black locks. I trim my beard so it looks neat. I check my pockets to assure I have everything I need so this goes off without a hitch. I come out to see Bell ready as well. I take her hand and Sarah kisses my cheek, “enjoy your lunch!” She winks and smiles. Bell and I hop into my Porsche 356 A speedster. I buckle her in and off we go to the hospital. As we walk in Bell leads the way to the house supervisors office. We knock on the door and Becca answers she is surprised and excited to see Bell. She immediately picks her up and twirls her around, hugging and kissing her. Bell giggles then says, “can we walk in the garden momma?” Will and I brought lunch! “Lunch sounds fantastic! Let me grab my cell phone and we can go.”

As I walk with Becca and Bell down the halls of the hospital Becca reaches over, grabs my hand, and interlaces our fingers. I can feel her warmth move through my body. We reach the garden and Becca swipes her badge to enter. The gate opens and we walk through. There are several staff members around and I can hear them mumble about Becca and I. We found a spot under a tree. I layer out a blanket and arranged our lunch! Becca leans over and kisses me. I quickly realize all eyes are on us. We start eating and I slide a box towards Becca. Bell is watching my every move. “Hey Bec, since we are going to be living together FOREVER why don’t you marry me and we can have a few more pups?” Becca nearly choked on her salad, she looked over and I showed her my mothers ring. It is a vintage 2 carat round cut solitaire encircled in citrine stones. I reach up and close her moth gently which brought her back to reality. “How about it momma?” She says nothing just leans in to kiss me! Her coworkers all clap and fuss over us a bit.

I had already arranged for her to have the rest of the day off work. We spent the rest of the day taking care of last minute details for the move. Becca and I had an early dinner. just the two of us. She walked me to my car and I was headed home.
