Far away, fuzzy voices reached my ears as my head pounded with pain. I tried to move my hands to my head but found them stuck to my sides. My body was unmoving with my immense struggle to move anything. Even my eyelids refused to open, no matter how much I tried.
"Hey... up," A familiar voice came from next to me. Warm hands touch my cold arms, moving up and down to create heat from friction.
The constant beeping sound, once fuzzy, now was loud and clear and starting to annoy me. My eyes, with all my strength, opened after many trials. A white room greeted me soon after, followed by a blur of red.
"You're awake!" Sarina, the red blur, hugged me tightly as she cried out on my shoulder. "I thought you would never wake up," She said worriedly while pulling away.
"Are you dumb or something? She blacked out from falling on her face, not a car accident," Valrie came and slapped the back of Sarina's head.
"How long was I out?" I sit up slowly, not to get dizzy.
"Five hours. You broke your nose, but the doctor fixed it and said it would hurt once you woke up, so he drugged you a bit, so it didn't hurt once you woke up," Valrie explained. My hand moved to my nose and felt my skin slightly bumpy where it must've broken.
"It doesn't hurt," I mumble as I massage my nose, trying to feel any pain.
"It was supposed to have healed by this time either way," Sarina shrugged. I nodded and let my eyes roam around the room, only to fall on a window. It showed the dirty, piled-up buildings of Topia.
It didn't matter that it was bound to happen; a wave of sadness flowed through me as reality hit me. It was only for a small period the luxuries I was experiencing, and that it would come to a short, cruel end. I shouldn't have hoped much; I need to accept I am to live a lowly life in the outskirts of Arca.
Maybe I'll be a scrap collector or a nanny for those who don't have enough money for a cheap robot.
The sound of a door sliding open made me turn my head to see my friends coming inside the room, making me realize I didn't even see them leave.
"The doctor said you could leave. If you feel any pain for the next few hours, you can take one of these," Valrie handed me a small bottle with a couple of capsules inside.
The will to talk left me, so I only nodded before slipping out of bed. My eyes raked over my body, noticing I still wore the same clothes from the zoo. Guilt flooded me as I saw Valrie and Sarina still wore the same clothes as earlier. As if sensing my guilt, the two came next to me and hugged me from both sides.
"It's okay; you didn't ruin anything. It wasn't your fault. If it makes anything better, the person who made you trip was a snobby girl who looked to have done it on purpose. A Sona took her for injuring a special guest."
"Special guest?" I asked, confused.
"Yes, very few people have gotten this kind of invitation over the decades, I think two every five years. We got invited since I guess it knew you wouldn't do well alone. So look at the good part, we get to keep amazing memories of what we did today," Valrie explained.
"At least we get to keep that," I smiled sadly. Thirty minutes later, I was back in my small apartment room. I had been sent an order not to go to class the next day because of my already healed injury.
I was all alone, bored out of my mind since there was nothing to do in my small loft other than sleep and stare out the small window.
How am I supposed to spend my next day here?
I sighed, plopping down on my bed on my back. My eyes stared at my dirty ceiling with some of its paint peeling off.
"I just had to ruin the perfect day. I saw the most amazing animals and met the most amazing guys," I spoke softly to myself. My hands raised and covered my face as I loudly sighed. "I'll never see him again- Why am I even moping about him? It not like he would want to see me again."
And on cue, to contradict my loathing self, my phone vibrated with a notification, and looking at the screen confirmed it was the guy I met, Ego.
Ego Lilya
I know the best way for you to repay my kindness. Tomorrow I don't have to work, so we could hang out after your class :)
My heart skipped a beat after I read the message over and over again. He wants to hang out with me!? With shaky fingers, I quickly replied.
Ego Lilya
I don't have class tomorrow. I've been ordered not to attend. I'll try and see if that includes going out of my place. But I'll be more than glad to hang out with you
"Did that sound too excited? Did I reply too fast?" I questioned myself.
Ego Lilya
I'm sure you can get out. It wouldn't want you inside your place all day tomorrow, especially when someone wants to hang out with you ;)
Blush spread all over my cheeks, probably giving me a look that screamed "tomato."
Ego Lilya
Alright, we'll hang out tomorrow
Good, I'll pick you up at ten
