The next morning, Jess convinced herself she was only being polite.
That was all.
She stood at the Greyshaw's family front door, holding a welcome basket her mother insisted she brings.
The door opened.
A smiling woman greeted her.
"Oh!, you must be our neighbour,"
Jess smiled nervously, " Hi, I'm Jess, I live next door."
"Well, come in!", the woman said warmly. " I'm Mrs greyshaw, and this is my husband".
"Nice to meet you."
Mr. Greyshaw chuckled. " You're here for Tania, I assume?".
Jess tried not to sound to quick, " Yes."
They exchanged knowing smiles.
"She's upstairs, Second door on the left."
Jess walked up slowly, suddenly aware of how fast her heart was beating.
She knocked softly.
No answer.
She pushes the door slightly open.
And there she was.
Tania sat by the mirror, brushing out her hair, sunlight spilling across the room around her like she belonged inside a movie scene.
She turned.
Smiled.
"You should really wait for people to say come in."
Jess nearly dropped the basket.
" Oh my God -I'm so sorry -I'm Jess- I live next door - I was just trying to -"
Tania laughed.
A soft teasing laugh.
"I know who you are".
Jess blinked.
"You do?"
"Hard not to", Tania said. "Popular girl, perfect boyfriend, perfect life".
Something about the way she said it made Jess uneasy.
Tania stood and walked closer.
"You can come in, you know".
Jess stepped inside.
And somehow......
It felt like stepping into trouble.
