"Raphael! Open this door!" I slammed my fists against it, twisting the knob until my palm ached. My voice cracked as I screamed his name over and over, the desperation tearing through me like fire. But there was no response. Nothing. The silence was so thick it felt like the walls themselves were mocking me. Not a sound from inside. Not even footsteps. As though I didn’t exist at all.
