The inspector cleared his throat and ignored her comment even as she loomed over him as he continued to sit. “Would you be willing to write up that valuation officially?” he asked Adaire.
“Certainly,” Adaire said. “I could get that to you in the morning if you’d like. I just have to get the letterhead file from the library, and then I can write it up officially for you.”
“Very good,” the inspector said as he stood and stepped to his right to avoid Ms. MacDonald. “In that case, I have everything I need for today. Mr. Stovall, I need to take the book at this point. If you’d like to go with me to the station, I can give you a formal receipt for it so that you can claim it again at the end of the investigation.”
