Chapter Seven

1230 Words
(Freyja’s POV) I could have sworn I felt my mate’s presence last night when I shifted with the pack. I sat and waited for him or her to show themselves but all night no one came to me. Such a disappointing evening led to a disappointing morning, I was late to my shift at the hospital and of course the boss had to be on my floor just as I was running in.         “Just because your sister is the future Luna doesn’t not mean that her family members can do as they wish! Watch where you are going, stop running and get clocked in!” He growled at me and I wanted so bad to just flip him off, he was the laziest boss who spent most of his time in the break room playing Mario Cart than actually doing his job.         I finally clocked in then starting my daily rounds, some of the patients were discharged last night so the ward was pretty empty but still had some people. I worked on the post-op floor, wolves healed so fast that my job was pretty easy. I started to prep one of the rooms of a recently discharged patient for the next when Francis a fellow nurse came in to help me.         “Hey Freyja how was your night last night?” Francis came over not so subtly looking at my neck for a mark. “Oooh didn’t go find them then?” I turned my head and scoffed at him. Francis was lucky like my sister he had found his mate on his 18th birthday, and it was also lucky that he had his birthday on a full moon.         “I sensed someone but it doesn’t seem like they were at the Gathering so maybe they are like Annette and don’t like them” I shrugged after four years of search I still hadn’t lost hope that I would find my mate. Everyday people were turning 18 so there was still hope.         “He might still be underage, maybe he is close to his birthday and you felt an early mate pull? It’s rare but it does happen” Francis laughed most of those rare situations happened with Alpha’s since their senses were more sharpened than regular wolves. I scoffed, grabbing some meds and complimentary supplies to stock the cabinets while Francis stripped the bed.         “Maybe, how is Zephyr anyway? Hope my sister is kicking his ass” I laughed at the fact that Annette more than likely would kick his ass just for his attitude most times.         “Annette got the drop on him yesterday so now he is worried someone will tell the Beta or Prudence and he will have to go through sensory training again, it makes me worried if Annette can get the drop on him then what about rouge wolves or exiles?” he rubbed his forehead letting out a heavy sigh. I understood his worry, I worried for Annette everyday if something happened to her it would hurt the whole family especially mom, I think that might do her in. She already lost her mate and then a child, it would break her totally.         “Are you guys going through with the adoption or are you still waiting?” I turned away from the cabinets and looked at Francis gauging his reaction. He was tense, staring at the hazardous waste hamper like it might take off.         “I want to move forward with it but Zeph wants to wait longer, he says he wants to travel and keep me to himself for longer but I think it is a cop out, he is scared of having a child, scared he will be like his father which I already told him is impossible because I will be there too” I could see the tears welling up in his eyes. Francis wanted a family so badly.         “He will come around at some point; do you want to babysit Camilla’s kids? Annika might put you off from having kids for a couple years though” that comment managed to get a chuckle out of him.         “No definitely not, though Hilda might be able convince Zeph of having some kids if I can convince him that all kids are as well behaved as her” he was back to his usual sarcastic self so I knew he had moved on from his earlier darkness.         “If only every kid could be as well behaved as her parents would have a easy wicket” I chuckled too and finished up with the room and went on to the next, I cleaned a total of 4 rooms with Francis’s help then a patient came in.         “Well hello Teddy back again? Did my sister put you in here again?” Theodore had a history of mouthing off to Annette and paid for it dearly a few times.         “No she didn’t the Beta did, broken femur I let my guard down for a split second that was all it took” he sighed and looked at his casted femur. Everyone at the hospital wished that the Beta didn’t train the guards so hard but in the past 28 years we have only had three guard’s die on duty which is greatly below the average for most packs.         “Well the last bite is the one you don’t see” he nodded, it only took a split second, some teeth and your throat would be gone. Guards are training in some anatomy as well, to protect their vital arteries to fight as long as possible. This also gives them a better chance at receiving medical attention instead of bleeding out on the field.         “Well looks like a clean break but you will still need to be here for another 4-5 hours for it to heal enough to walk on” he sighed in frustration, like most warriors he didn’t like to stand or sit idle so he would more than likely complain about being here too long. Teddy was one with a high pain tolerance so we couldn’t ask him how he was feeling or he would lie than limp out of the hospital. “Teddy do not make me extend the time just because you complained because with just a few words I could have you in here the rest of the night” that shut him up as I wheeled him to his room.         “You Bielke girls are all the same, threats and violence, I swear you girls have more balls then most of the wolves in this pack” he mumbled while shaking his head.         “That is women not girls to you Teddy” I locked the wheels on his bed then left his room with him lightly chuckling to himself. Normally I would not be so gruff with patients but Teddy was in here every other week, most of the guards were in here for the breaks that couldn’t be set themselves.         “Teddy is in room three, if complains tell him I said he will be here 2 more hours each time he complains” I nodded to the nurse at the nurse’s station while I went to scrub up for a surgery I was helping assist in and thinking of my future mate the whole way.
