As they all lay there, tangled together in the soft aftermath of the night, the air shifted. Dante cleared his throat, breaking the silence. “We have something to tell you, Clara.” Clara, resting her head on Kai’s chest, looked up slowly. “What’s that?” There was a pause. And then — as if rehearsed — all three men said together, their voices firm but soft, “We love you, Clara.” Time stopped. Clara blinked. Once. Twice. Her breath caught in her throat, her heart suddenly racing for a very different reason. She sat up fast. “I—I’m going to go take a bath.” No one stopped her.
