EIGHT I was kept in suspense for some two days. This is not true. I had no sense of suspense at all, nor, really, of waiting. Waiting entails expectation, or dread, I think, and I felt neither during those two days in which nothing happened but the usual, which means nothing. I did things, but I did not do things thinking This will kill a little time, or, This will take my mind off things, because my mind was on nothing but what was at hand, whatever that was, it doesn’t matter. I do remember a cloud, but whether this was on the first or second day I couldn’t say. It was remarkable, but not memorable in all its details.
