You lost that right

Chapter 9: Chad’s POV I stood in front of my full view mirror, adjusting the gold cufflinks on my sleeves. I had an important business dinner to attend with my cousin, and I was already behind schedule. My phone buzzed on the glass table, Noah’s caller ID flashing on the screen again. I rolled my eyes and swiped to answer. Before I could even say a word, Noah’s voice boomed through the speaker. "I am bringing the boy inside the house whether you like it or not! Do you hear me?!" he barked, slamming the line dead before I could respond. I stared at my reflection, my jaw tightening as I straightened my tie. Noah was my right hand man and my oldest friend, but not once in twenty years had he raised his voice at me like that. Yet this helpless, fragile omega was making my most loyal enforcer snap at his boss. I had given clear orders: I didn't want Danny in this mansion. I had offered to let him stay initially, but he left without taking my money, and I wasn't about to run around chasing a stubborn kid. All I wanted was a single night of fun with a gorgeous stripper, I never asked for this chaotic mess. "Honey, we haven't even spent any real time together," Sarah purred from behind me, gliding across the carpet in a silk robe. "Shouldn't I come with you to this dinner? As your wife?" I clicked my watch into place, turning my gaze toward her. "We have a lifetime to spend together," I said, my voice completely flat. "Don't rush it. Besides... we shouldn't even be sharing a room." "What?!" she gasped, her face twisting in shock. I ignored her, walking past her toward the hallway and clicking the heavy double doors shut behind me. But as soon as I turned the corner, Noah was marching straight toward me. Before I could blink, he grabbed me roughly by the forearm. I instantly yanked my arm out of his grip. "Watch your hands, Noah." "Chad, please!" Noah pleaded, his voice raspy with genuine panic. "The boy is dying... do you have even a tiny drop of human empathy inside you?!" "Dying?" I echoed, my brows furrowing. "Is he really dying?" "Just come with me." He grabbed my coat sleeve, dragging me toward the far guest wing. He shoved open the door to the corner suite. The moment I stepped over the threshold, Noah backed out, pulled the heavy door shut, and turned the lock from the outside. Click. "Noah!" I growled, rattling the handle. He had actually locked me in. I turned around, my eyes falling on the king sized bed. There he lay. I walked slowly toward the mattress, my footsteps silent on the rug. He was sprawled across the white sheets, his blonde hair tangled, his skin so ghostly pale he looked almost dead. Fated mates? I thought bitterly. Does that archaic bullshit actually exist? Before I could process it, his pheromones hit me like a physical wave. The room was heavy, suffocating, drowning me in the intoxicating, addictive scent of sweet vanilla and fresh rain. Even looking like a corpse in the middle of all this chaos, he was ridiculously breathtaking. I couldn't believe this kid had become my most dangerous mistake. I stood at the edge of the bed, drawn in by his scent like a moth to a flame. I slowly bent down, leaning over him. Without warning, his blue eyes snapped wide open. Before I could react, his hand shot out, grabbing my suit collar in an iron grip and yanking me down hard. Our faces stopped just an inch apart. I swallowed hard, staring into his wild, pained eyes. "I hate you," he whispered weakly. My heart did a strange, violent thud against my ribs. He pulled me down into a deep, brutal kiss. The sheer intensity of it shattered my restraint, I jumped onto the bed, pinning him down as we clashed, our lips bruising each other in a desperate, frantic struggle. But he wasn't resisting, he was hungrier for it than I was. With a surge of hidden strength, he suddenly flipped our positions, stranding himself right on top of my chest. I gasped for air, staring up at him. Where the hell did an omega find that kind of strength? He leaned down again, burying his face in my neck, inhaling my scent wildly while kissing his way down my collarbone. He nipped at my chest through my unbuttoned shirt, and a low, involuntary groan escaped my throat. I could feel my body reacting instantly, my arousal hardening against my pants. "Wait," I rasped out, trying to catch my breath. "Danny, wait...." He didn't listen. His hands scrambled down to my leather belt, undoing the buckle with frantic speed. He wanted me. Right now. Was this just the terrifying pull of a severed bond, or did he actually crave me this badly? My Alpha instincts rebelled against being beneath anyone. I grabbed his hips, flipped him back onto the mattress, and hovered over him. "An Alpha stays in control," I growled, leaning in to claim his throat. Before my lips could touch his skin, he twisted violently, throwing his weight against me. In a split second, he flipped me onto my back again, straddling my waist and pinning both of my wrists tightly above my head against the pillows. I swallowed hard, staring up at him in sheer disbelief. My arms were locked. He was actually holding me down. "You lost that control the second you abandoned your mate," he rasped, his eyes dark and burning. He leaned down until our noses were practically touching, his breath hot against my lips. I held my breath, waiting for the bite, waiting for the plunge. Then, a single hot tear spilled from his eye, landing right on my cheek. Danny suddenly stiffened. He let go of my wrists, pulled back, and slid off me, his chest heaving as he stood beside the bed. I sat up slowly, adjusting my rumpled shirt and breathing heavily. "Are you... okay now?" I managed to ask, my voice rough. He didn't give me a glance. He walked straight over to the full length mirror, adjusting his shorts and smoothing his hair like I wasn't even there. He pulled his phone from his pocket and dialed a number. "Hello, Erica," Danny said into the phone, his tone dead cold. "Give Noah the phone." I swung my legs off the bed, tucking in my shirt. Danny turned around to face me. The fear and helplessness that used to dance in his eyes whenever I looked at him were completely gone. In their place was a hollow, chilling emptiness. "Noah," Danny spoke into the phone, his eyes locked onto mine. "Move my things to your boss's bedroom. Right now." Boss's room? My heart dropped straight to the floor. No way in hell did this kid just commandeer my bedroom.
