Chapter 11

I spluttered, coughing. Panic slamming into me. “What?” I said, glaring at him. “Why would you even say that?” Ace laughed, the sound coming deep from his chest. “I’m kidding. You’re wound too tight, little wolf. It shouldn’t be that easy to get under your skin,” he smirked, his eyes glowing with that amusement. But worry pulsed in me. No one had said anything like that before. Did Ace see something the others didn’t or had they just not said anything? Was I still too feminine? I had cut most of my hair off, changed my hair and eye color…I knew I didn’t look anything close to rugged but I still thought I looked boy-ish enough. I swallowed hard. I needed to change the subject. I nodded to the jar. “You’d really let me have that?” I asked, hoping the question would shift his attention. It worked. He smiled at me slowly. "Sure, well…" he trailed off, his grin turning slightly wicked as he glanced at the jar then back at me, "I should say you can have it... for a price." I turned around to face him, looking up into those green eyes. "A price?" I responded dryly. "Don't worry," he said, looking down at me, his eyes sparkling with challenge, "it's nothing you wouldn't enjoy paying." My eyebrows knitted together as my heart began to race. "Ace." "I mean, it would just be something simple," he said, casually. "Like a kiss." My eyes widened as my pulse jumped at the suggestion. He chuckled at my reaction. "What, you've never kissed someone before, little wolf?” he asked. “Or is it that you've never kissed a guy before?" While I had kissed Silas plenty of times before, I had never kissed a guy while pretending to be one. "Are you always like this?" I asked, trying to slow my racing heartbeat. "Only when I’m intrigued,” he responded, his eyes slowly tracing my lips. A small shiver ran through me as I watched. I knew this game he was playing had nothing to do with him recognizing our mate bond. It had nothing to do with the pull and draw of my scent…and that intrigued me. "So what's it going to be?" he said, holding the jar enticingly in his hand. His green eyes were filled with mischief and challenge, and something darker. I swallowed and moved to take the jar from him, but before I could even reach it, he slipped it smoothly into his pocket. "Payment first," he said, his green eyes teasing me. “Ace,” I warned, his name coming out breathier than I expected as my heart raced even more. “What are you going to do about it, little wolf?” The question was both a challenge and an invitation. This was dangerous, I knew, but I needed that jar. Before I could second guess myself, I reached up and pressed a quick kiss to his lips, my body tingling from the contact. My wolf purred excitedly, wanting more. I began pulling away, but he cupped my face. "Cute," he murmured. "But that's not a real kiss."Then his lips captured mine and heat exploded through every nerve in my body. The kiss was dizzying as his lips moved against mine, teasing and coaxing responses from me that I didn't know I was capable of giving. I knew I should pull away and end the kiss before he accidentally discovered something he shouldn’t. Except… I had never wanted anything more than this. My hands gripped his shirt as I began kissing him deeply, losing myself in the taste and scent of him. My wolf was practically singing with joy, every instinct telling me this was right, this was what we needed. As his lips trailed down my neck, and he pressed into that sensitive spot just below my ear, my body arched into him, and a loud moan escaped me. "Easy there, little wolf," he said against my skin, his teeth grazing against the very spot that was asking me to be claimed. "Make that sound again and I can’t promise I’ll be able to stop.” I trembled at his words, heat pooling within me as I brought his lips back to mine and kissed him with a desperation I didn't fully understand. All I knew was that I needed more, more of his touch, more of his taste, more of him. The kiss became deeper, hungrier, until I was completely lost in the sensation of him, nothing existing except for this. Suddenly, a loud creak came, cutting through my haze. Someone had entered the dorm. I broke away from him, breathing hard as my eyes snapped toward the open bathroom door. “Ace,” I hissed under my breath as I pushed against his chest, but he refused to budge. He chuckled at my feeble attempt to move him, his eyes sparkling. "God, you are cute," he breathed. He ran his thumb across my swollen bottom lip, and smiled with lazy satisfaction. Then he moved away from me to lean casually against the door frame. He took in whoever stood at the front door. "You must be my new roommate," Ace said, his voice perfectly normal as if he'd been discussing the weather and not just kissing me senselessly. "I'm Ace." As the scent wafted towards me, I felt my stomach turn. "I’m Silas,” the familiar voice said. “Silas Blackwood.”
