His grip on my throat tightened at my confession and I was seriously getting tired of being strangled today. He gritted his teeth looking down at me, his gaze seeming to flicker between desire and disgust. I bucked my hips trying to dislodge him from me and he pressed his weight down further as I struggled. "Tell me why?" He all but growled out, and I sneered, "Go to hell hunter." He smirked, "you first witch."
I gasped as he squeezed hard enough to start cutting off my oxygen supply, my eyes going wide. Think think think Marinette. I closed my eyes as they began to water, willing my mind to calm. I began to focus on the feel of his fingers on my body much as I did the mechanics of the door locks when I wanted to lock or unlock them. I willed his fingers on my wrists to loosen and felt as he resisted bearing down on my throat in earnest.
His grip on my wrists slacked just enough for me to slip one hand free and I immediately shoved my thumb into his eye. He cursed loudly and flinched back his grip on my throat and wrist coming free. I swallowed a desperate gasp of air into my lungs, my hands moving to his chest. I focused my energy and shoved as my magic flared to life beneath my palms, sending the man flailing across the room.
Coughing I rolled from the bed, scrambling for the door as Rune was picking himself up from where he had fallen in a heap. I sprinted from the room, his heavily booted footfalls echoing behind me. I half turned, sending another quick wave of energy over my shoulder stalling his steps as I made the stairs, clattering down them as fast as I could. I wrenched the door open, the wood frame of the door splintering next to my head as he fired what I hope was a warning shot and he hadn't just accidently missed shooting me in the head.
I couldn't help the yelp that leapt from my lips as I barreled down into the garden falling to my knees. "Marinette you're only making this worse." he sneered as he appeared in the doorway leveling the gun at my head. I shoved to my feet, trembling as I slowly backed towards the gate, my eyes wide and locked on the barrel. "You're really just going to kill me?" I said barely above a whisper. He frowned, his eyes filled to the brim with a conflict of emotions. "Can you give me a reason not to? You're hexing innocent people Marinette."
I laughed, it was full and loud and borderline hysterical. "Innocent? Oh that's rich… really. What sob story did that asshole Kevin feed you Rune? Or does it even matter. Shoot first and ask questions later, I'm just a witch right?" I shook my head.
"What are you waiting for? Shoot her!" A man's bellicose voice bellowed. I spun as the garden gate opened to stare into the beady eyes I knew all too well. Kevin's sneering face was the last thing I saw as I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head and everything went black.

"What are you waiting for?! Shoot her!" The weasel yelled as he stood watching from the sidewalk. Marinette spun to face him as he opened the gate his face twisting into a sneer. I descended the porch steps silently while her attention was diverted and Kevin's eyes lit up with glee for a moment then rage as I brought the butt of my gun down on the back of her head instead of shooting her. "What the f**k?" He spat watching me catch her as she crumbled to the ground unconscious. I arched an eyebrow, "problem Mr. Anderson?" He narrowed his eyes as I lifted her cradling her to my chest. I watched as his eyes raked over her body burning with a hate-filled lust. There was no doubt in my mind what this man would do to her unconscious body given the chance. "You were supposed to kill the b***h not knock her out…. But I guess we could have a bit of fun before you burn her." My eyes narrowed, "and that right there is exactly why I didn't kill her. For someone so adamant about being the one to turn her down, your sure seem eager to explore other possibilities now." He sputtered and straightened up. "I mean I never would… I have my gal. But I was just thinking if you needed some release that I could ho-" I glared openly as I cut him off "don't… finish that statement if you value your life. I'll be taking her back to the compound for interrogation, you will stay here and you will keep quiet about knowing she's gone until we make contact." My eyes narrowed, "and if I find out you tried to use the clan as your own personal hit squad… " I shook my head and pushed past him as the sound of approaching sirens broke the silence of of night.
I turned the corner and continued to walk putting distance between the weasel the sirens and us until I came back to where I had parked my suv. I laid her out in the backseat before grabbing a set of silver cuffs and secured her hands behind her back. I stared at her unconscious for for a moment and sighed scrubbing my face. "couldn't have just been an evil c*nt could you." I smirked and shut the door before getting into the driver's seat. With any luck we'd be at the compound by midmorning and the little witch could be someone else's problem.
