Maybe Mary had called my mom and told her what happened. Maybe she had convinced her to come and check on me. Maybe she had offered them her spare room, but they had decided to stay with me instead. Maybe they had wanted to surprise me and make me feel better or maybe they were just selfish and thoughtless. I didn't know what to do. Should I wake them up and confront them? Should I sneak out of the room and pretend I didn't see them? Should I call Mary and ask her what was going on? I decided to do none of those things.
