CHAPTER FIFTY
Rhys had been planning the proposal for weeks.
He wanted it to be perfect. Sasha deserved perfect. After everything she had been through—the wars, the losses, the weight of leading—she deserved a moment that was just for her. Just for them.
But he couldn't do it alone.
He found Maya in the library one evening, surrounded by books and papers. She looked up when he entered, her eyes sharp.
"You look nervous," she said.
"I need your help."
Maya set down her pen. "With what?"
"Proposing to Sasha."
Her face broke into a grin. "Finally. I've been waiting for this."
They planned late into the night.
Maya had ideas—dozens of them. A ceremony in the gardens. A private moment on the ridge overlooking Haven. A celebration with the whole community.
Rhys listened to all of the
