The first location was in Oregon, deep in the mountains, hidden from the world. They traveled for three days, following the trail Nadia had promised to leave. Small signs—a broken branch, a scrap of fabric, a mark carved into a tree. Signs that only someone looking for them would find.
"She's clever," Luc said, examining one of the marks. "She knows we're following. She's making sure we can."
"She's scared," Maya replied. "She's been scared her whole life. This is the first time she's had someone to follow."
