Chapter 9 Across the Ocean

688 Words
After leaving Adrian's villa, Lucia was hospitalized for an entire week with a high fever. The moment she was discharged, she sold the apartment Adrian had bought for her. Now, as she walked out of the bank, she glanced at the balance on her phone again and felt completely satisfied. She called one of her university professors and explained that she had lost her admission letter from Northbridge Institute of Technology, asking whether it could be reissued. The professor thought for a moment before replying. "Contact Ethan Sinclair. He's my student, one year ahead of you, and he has already been studying at Northbridge Institute of Technology for a year. I'll give him a call and ask him to help you." Lucia had heard that name before. Ethan was a legendary figure at their university. He came from a good family, was handsome, and, most impressively, had outstanding academic performance. Lucia's roommates were all his devoted fans. But she had also heard that Ethan was extremely aloof. He spoke bluntly and without consideration, and several junior girls who had confessed to him had ended up crying. Lucia saved the phone number. After hesitating for a long time, she finally called him. A cool male voice answered. "I'll help you reissue the document. Just book a flight to Westoria." Lucia had not expected him to be so easy to talk to, and she quietly let out a sigh of relief. She immediately booked a ticket. After a ten-hour flight, she finally arrived on the other side of the ocean. When she walked out of the airport, she saw Ethan holding a sign and waiting. Lucia hurried over. "Hello, Ethan. My name is Lucia." Ethan's usually stern and handsome face softened into a faint smile. "Hello. Your professor asked me to take care of you. From now on, just follow me." He then took out the reissued admission letter and handed it to her. Lucia thanked him. As she looked at the unfamiliar scenery around her, countless emotions surged through her heart. After working so hard for so long, she had finally arrived here. Behind her, Ethan watched quietly, his gaze deep and meaningful. ''Lucia, I finally found you,'' he murmured silently in his heart. Meanwhile, months passed without Lucia returning, and Adrian could no longer sit still. For the first time, he took the initiative to call her. But the number had already been disconnected. Adrian froze. She had blocked him on messaging, and now she had even changed her phone number. Was she really planning to cut him out of her life completely? Adrian's hand trembled as he held the phone. A strange anxiety gripped him, making even his breathing feel tight. The next second, he suddenly smashed the phone onto the floor, as if venting his anger or perhaps his fear. Vivian jumped in shock, but she quickly hid the fear in her eyes. Carefully, she sat beside Adrian and wrapped her arms around his strong arm. "Adrian, don't get upset over that kind of woman. She isn't worth it." Adrian violently shook her off. "Shut up." Vivian had never expected such harshness from him. She stood frozen as the color slowly drained from her face. Adrian irritably called his assistant and ordered him to investigate Lucia's whereabouts immediately. Martha quietly picked up Adrian's phone from the floor and placed it back on the table. "Sir, Ms. Hart already told you. She went to study at Northbridge Institute of Technology." Adrian let out a dismissive laugh. "You actually believe that nonsense? How could she possibly get into a place like that?" Martha then took out the burned scrap of paper she had kept. "This is something I found in the ashes the day Ms. Hart left. I looked it up. It seems to say something about Northbridge Institute of Technology…" Adrian immediately snatched it from her. Two blurred lines of Westorian language could still be seen. The first line read: Northbridge Institute of Technology… Congratulations. The second line contained Lucia's name. A heavy feeling suddenly settled in Adrian's chest. Could it be… Had Lucia really been accepted?
