Candice stayed in Stephens arms sobbing as she looked at Laurie's still form lying on the hospital bed. She was so pale, so bruised. It was a miracle nothing was broken. She had a concussion and would be in pain but at least Laurie was alive.
Dr Miranda came waltzing in looking a bit grim. "Candice may I have a word" she said looking serious.
"I'll leave you two alone" Stephen said hastily but Candice shook her head.
"Stay" she pleaded and he melted, holding her hand as they both faced the dr expectantly.
Dr Miranda looked down at her clipboard "I noticed that she has scarring in her throat, almost as though she's been constantly vomiting. Has she been unwell?
